  • Valen = Choices ???

    Hi all,
I just noticed something (whilst watching Battle Star Gallactica RAZOR with German subtitles), That the English word CHOICES translated to (German) VALEN!!!!
It seems a bit ironic considering some of the CHOICES that
had to be made for Sinclair / Valen.
Is this another of JMS's little mind games???????
    Just an observation.

Valen? As a german speaking person I don't recognice that word... the only similar word would be "Wahlen", which translates to "voting", which is kinda similar to choices, but not quite.

At which point during Razor was it, gavel? My German is pretty rusty, but maybe I could decipher what's going on there.

        Hi again,
I first noticed it during one of the Female Admiral's speeches-(can't think of her name at the moment) .The copy I watched was in English and I assumed the subtitles were German -guess I was mistaken, (The subtitles couldn't be turned off on this copy). Just seeing that word popping up on screen (during BSG ) bought a smile to my face.
I also enjoyed seeing the original cylons again -even in CGI form.

Unfortunately, both "Wahlen" and the verb "wõhlen" only sound similar. If he were called Vaalen or Vehlen, it might be intentional, but thankfully, he isn't.

It's all a bit immaterial, since gavel was reading subtitles not listening to dubbing. It must have been a different language.

Oh, and it's Admiral Cain you were thinking of, gavel.

Could have been something scandinavian like danish or swedish, but definitely not german or dutch.
              What's up Drakh?

It's Swedish, based on a little digging.

Maybe it's similar to the meatballs?
