  • Hello everyone :)

Well, it doesn't hurt to introduce myself, does it ? I'm French, 26 years old, and got dragged into B5 because of my boyfriend. He's been a B5 addict ever since it first aired in France (that's 1995). I had heard about the series but never gave it much thought, since I wasn't really into Sci-Fi at the time. As a child I was traumatised by Star Trek and, well... I just let it slip. So now we're back to 2005 and my very first encounter with that hairy guy in Orgrimmar (o-m-g). Shortly thereafter, he insisted I started watching the series. I guess the conversation was about CCGs and TCGs. As it happens, the aforementioned boyfriend played the B5 one quite a lot. So here goes, I got my hands on a complete set and started watching. After a few days, I was well into s3. But I got so emotionally involved with the whole show, story and characters alike, that I had to stop watching the series after the end of s4. That was about 12 months ago. Last week, I finally decided to get over it ("it" = Marcus's death and Ivanova leaving) and started watching s5 to the end. Needless to say, being the emotive type, I had a hard time wiping my tears (they started pouring from Phoenix Rising on and stopped two days after watching Sleeping in Light).

Now I've become some kind of ghost, lurking on the Web, searching for information 24 hours a day, wondering how long it will take me to save enough for the complete JMS B5 scripts set... and I had a serious crush on Robin Atkin Downes...

Pleased to meet you all. I hope you will forgive this clumsy English of mine.

    Hello and welcome.

To me B5 is one of the best, if not overall best TV ever produced. Funny, sad, dramatic, action packed, thought provoking, consistantly good writing and acting, a revolutionary look, charismatic cast...are there any other shows that can truely boast all of these qualities? I very much doubt it.

So, you'll find that you're never alone here. Some folks here will make you laugh, some...to shout, and most to make you want to write more posts!

Enjoy the community and I will see you around.

PS - Your English seems excellent to me, much better than my French, so no appology required! You will not find one person here that would pick you up on a 'second language' typo.

If you want to get back into it find the short story by JMS from amazing stories #602 - Vol. 72, #2 - Summer 2000 "Space, Time and the Incurable Romantic" - Marcus & Ivanova. to find their final ending. It was on line somewhere. If you look hard enough you might find it.

        Welcome aboard, glad you're here

Yeah, well, the rent is cheap, the pay is decent and I get to make my own hours.

While collecting info on the Internet (starting with Wikipedia - yeah, we all have our little flaws), I stumbled upon something of the sort. Isn't it a story about Marcus being frozen and revived like 300 years later with Ivanova long dead ?

@ Jan & LightStorm > thanks for the welcome !

Yes, that's the one but the story's online, it *shouldn't* be (unless it's a summary) so if it is...it should only be discussed via PM. We respect copyright a lot here.

It's a very controversial story that a lot of people didn't like because of the questions raised about free will. I enjoyed the story but did find it sort of unsettling.

I don't mind editing my previous post if need be. I assumed it was safe talking about it that way, since these few hints are on display on the related Wikipedia article. I apologize for breaking the rules... I will never find a copy of this Amazing Stories issue, I'm afraid... (believe me, I did quite a thorough search on various auction websites)

No, you're fine. It was just a caution after Glindros mentioned that it could be found online, that's all. Not to worry.

Keep an eye on Ebay because the short stories *do* come available every once in a while. They can be awfully expensive, though.

One place to check that had a very good synopsis is WorldsOfJMS.com. You might want to check that out.

Yes, I've got that one bookmarked, as well as everything JMS I could find... Don't they do anthologies ?

That's a hope that lots of us have. You probably know that JMS is publishing his scripts from the show, right? One of the questions that is often asked is whether the short stories he wrote (4 of the 6, if I recall correctly) might also be published. So far we don't know the answer to that because, while scripts have a clear right for the writer to publish or sell physical copies, the short stories may belong entirely to Warner's and that would make them *very* expensive to get a license to publish.

Yes, I know about the scripts, they're my latest infatuation, I WANT those, but, well, with shipping to Europe, buying the whole 13-volume set would cost me a nice $ 580 and to be sure, I don't have that kind of money right now. Still, if the US currency continues its lovely drop, I just MIGHT be ready for vol. 14... I just read the synopsis on Worlds of JMS. Make me drool.

Just a quick caution...about 60 days after Volume 14 is released (with Volume 15) around the end of this month, the entire set will be withdrawn forever. I'm not trying to pressure you or be a 'hard sell' but I wanted to make sure you know.

Alas I know about this. I don't have much time left.

I wasn't trying to start trouble. But the stories have been out on the web. I'll try to find the link, and forward them to Jan.

It is a shame that the short stories are inaccessable to most fans. I don't know if there would be enough demand for a mass paperback, as a result I'd be surprised if they were ever released.

It is certainly not my intention to be disrespectful of JMS' copyright, just disappointed that an out of print work is virtually unavailable.

Yes they have, if you know where to look. Proof is, I found them yesterday evening, and spent a long, long time reading. But as soon as I can get an original Amazing Stories issue, or official reprint, I'll buy it without question.
