  • Need help with the upcoming B5 dvd movies

Ok,i need some major help here and i will explain in details what i mean:
When Season 1 came out on DVD i got the R1 version of it,all was good (quality wise).

-Then i decided to get Season 2 R2 version since it was cheaper for me,the quality was horrible.
I went through many forums and found out that many had that problem so i thought by the time Season 3 R2 will be out all will be fixed.
No! i mean Season 3 R2 is much better then the Season 2 R2 but still not a clear quality like Season 1 R1.

-Season 4 i decided not to take any chances and i got the R1 version,i was right it was fine (again quality wise).
-Same thing for Season 5 (got R1 again).

Now my dilemma is this: will this thing happen with the movie set too? i mean, for me the R2 version are way cheaper then the R1 but i prefer to pay a bit extra and to be happy with the quality.
I dont know what to do.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool you three times... well, you get the picture. Go R1.

I'm sure you could sell the R2 sets over the net to european fans, and you'll probably find the R1 box sets of 2 & 3 reduced in price by then....

I have seasons 1 and 2 from region two, and seasons 3, 4 and 5 from region one, and I haven't noticed any difference.

Season 2 R2 is the worst quality from all of the seasons as far as i can tell.
But yeah i think i would go with the R1,why risk it.

It maybe a bit hard to sell it to the european fans, since we can get it from amazon.de at 39,99Ç. And the quality is great. I got season one and season two.

You'd really have to watch R1/R2 of a specific episode simultaneously to really be able to judge the quality. Good quality to me might look crap to someone else using an uber-sound/video system. Or have all you guys done this?

What I've been wondering though is why the season-sets are so much cheaper over here in Europe. Last time i checked, amazon.com sold S4 more than 1.5x as expensive as amazon.de... I hope this isn't due to deliberate quality cuts.

Just out of curiosity: In what order would someone have to watch the seasons and movies to get an 'optimal' experience out of it, without spoilers?

European TV runs on a completely different transmission standard (PAL, as opposed to NTSC in the US). That might have something to do with both the price and the quality cuts. But what, I dunno.

Order of airing is order of release, for the most part. The Gathering is the pilot movie, so should be watched first. You could make a full run through the TV DVDs then. The movies In The Beginning and Thirdspace were aired just before/during Season 5, so those can be watched in between seasons 4 & 5, but they are side stories at best so can be left to after the whole thing. Then the rest of 'em.

Personally I would watch 'In the Beginning' first and then 'The Gathering', then Seasons 1-5 with 'Thirdspace' falling somewhere in the middle of Season 5. Then the rest of them. But that's just me.

I'd say Thirdspace falls between season 3 and 4 not 4 and 5 as it's after the shadow war but before the war with earth so I don't see how you could place it between 4 ans 5.......

if you wanted to watch B5 in order of time line it gose like this

                      In the Begining

                      The Gathering

                      S1

                      S2

                      S3

                      ThirdSpace

                      S4

                      S5

                      Well of Souls

Idealistcally, though, you shouldn't watch In the Beginning until after Season 4. Thirdspace can be watched at any point after Epiphanies, while River of Souls should not be watched until after Objects at Rest along with ACtA.

... but before "No surrender, no retreat", as Sheridan is still commander of B5, not Mr President.

                          Cheers,

If you're going chronologically yeah, but I'm not talking about chronological timing, I'm taking about when you can watch something without spoilers.

The British TV channel Channel 4 is retting up reviews of the Babylon 5 films. You may wish to add your comments.
