  • War without End. The Beginning...

I've been watching the Babylon 5 series
again for the 3rd time since discovering
this show 6 months ago. I was wondering
if JMS has any plans on telling the story
of how the Great War developed 1000
years ago between the Shadows, Minbari and the firstonesàwhen Valen first delivered Babylon 4?

I think this would be a very interesting multi
season series. Especially how peace transitioned
into war and the defeated of
    the Shadows.

(Excuse me if this question has been asked before,
but I could not find this answer on Google Groups
and my news server has horrible retention.)

    Thanks

    Hi, Redbrick, welcome!

That would be an interesting story, wouldn't it? I think I've seen others mention that they'd like to see that story also and I suppose it's possible we could see something in the Lost Tales. One problem might be that it seems that Michael O'Hare has possibly retired from acting. His website's been down for several months now.

    Again, welcome!

I wonder if JMS is against any recasting whatsoever? I know he has made his posistion clear in repect to the Dr. Franklin and G'Kar characters, but does this extend to all characters?

I would doubt that WB would put forward the kind of budget needed to do the war properly. This being the case, some extra backstory on the events of the war, or some type of cleanup story would be great.

One of the comic book series, or books touched on finding Babylon 4 in orbit around a planet. It had not time jumped, but was over a thousand years old at this point.

Thanks for the response. I guess I can look forward to the excitement of this news when it does come.

There are so many loose ends to this series I hope some of them get resolvedà.or brought as close to conclusion as possible. For instance does Garibaldi ever get revenge on Bester, how does LondoÆs Keeper gift play out with David Sheriden, Etc.?

IÆve introduced this series to a few of my non sci-fi relatives and it has really captured their attention. I look forward to the next TLT movie.

        Thanks

I think the bigger question would be how the fans - who are supposed to buy the DVD's or a ticket to the movie theater - would react to a re-casting.
I can only speak for myself, but as long as the original actors are available, I think they should pick up their old roles (if they still want to). Of course, it gets more difficult with each passing year, seeing that they don't get younger and some storylines that reach in the past are difficult to realize with a 40yr old Sinclair/Sheridan/Delenn when the actors have already passed the 50 and are heading sraight for their sixties.

I don't know if I'd enjoy a movie where some other actor than Michael O'Hare plays Sinclair. He's just part of the story, he IS Sinclair. Anyone else would feel very weird. And that extends to all other actors as well ...

The whole idea of doing a movie about the Shadow War 1000 years prior to the one during 2261 would be great though When you take into account JMS' talent of creating storyline that intertwine and connect, there could be some real surprises there ...

          I am all for it

If I remember correctly, this was brought up before in these forums. I can't remember who it was, but they raised a very good point. That point was if this was done there may not be a market for it because there wouldn't be any "Human Characters" in it. The story would focus on the other Space Bearing Races and as we know, Humans weren't in space during the first Shadow war.
Having said that, JMS could do a time travel story somehow with Humans somehow witnessing the begining, duration and end of that war.

I believe the Garibaldi/Bester bit is in the final book of the telepath trilogy. The keeper Londo gave for David is dealt with in the Centauri trilogy.

You're not finished with the series, Starstuff? You'll see what Vacantlook means by the end of the fifth season but what happens with the 'gift' that Londo gives is covered in the novels.

Did I participate in the inadvertent spoiling of something? If so, I apologize.

Starstuff, when you say you're not through with the DVDs yet, do you mean you're not finished watching the show for the first time, or do you mean that you're not finished purchasing the show on DVD?

Well, when the show first aired in Germany I started watching it, but somewhere during the last part of the third season I lost track of things ... or maybe my parents didn't let me watch it anymore, I don't remember.

So, I have purchased all 5 seasons and TLT on DVD in November/December and I started from the beginning again. I watched it all until "Falling towards Apotheosis". Then I was so shocked by what was revealed that I stopped watching any further and started from the beginning again

I _do_ have an idea what will happen through season 4 and 5 though. I also have an idea what will happen in "Sleepin in Light" because I watched a very nice video on YouTube that looked closely at the relationship between Delenn and Sheridan. No need to mention that _this_ made me cry real hard *sigh*

But technically, I am still a B5 virgin, not having watched all episodes yet. It would take a lot of time to explain, but B5 helped me through a rough time last year and I am just not ready to finish watching it ... because then it will be , well, over.

I am enjoying it immensely and I think I will time my watching so that I will have finished watching the series and the movies by the time the FedCon in Germany starts (where Bruce Boxleitner and Peter Jurasik will appear). Of course, except "Sleeping in light"

@vacantlook: Don't worry because of spoilers, I have the rare ability to oversee things I am not supposed to see

                          Not to worry *Starstuff*,

Many in this forum have watched B5 several times , ...
I still enjoy it , in some cases even more, because new things seem to catch my attention every time I watch it again

... and you certainly have a lot of good stuff waiting to be watched

Sigh...I find myself envying you, still having so much of the show to experience for the first time. It won't really be over, though. You'll still have the movies and Crusade and while they're very different, they're still in the right universe.

That sounds like fun. Both men are *really* nice. Do feel free to post your thoughts, though. We 'old timers' enjoy experiencing the first time viewing vicariously.
