I hope it's Conan who's getting the contract done, since I've heard that he's been paying his crew from his own pocket since this thing started. Pretty decent if you ask me.

Funny thing, but it seems to me that in these almost four years I've been posting here, it's been Jan who's always been first to answer my often odd questions

Actually, it's Worldwide Pants, Dave Letterman's production company. Both him and his later show host on CBS, Craig Ferguson, will be returning January 2nd with full writing staff.

I highlighted this passage to ask...

If the Writer's Guild can do this negotiation on a studio-by-studio basis, will this effectively break the apparent stranglehold that the AMPTP seems to have?

I believe that is the hope of the WGA with this move. It may even be negotiated on a production company by production company basis.

Oh yeah, happy new year and all that jazz as well.

Now, Aaron, it hasn't been *that* long! :-)

I've been watching Nikke Finke's site today since there seemed to be some movement with the company who produces the Golden Globes but it looks like that didn't work.

Letterman goes back on tonight with Hillary Clinton and Craig Ferguson (Letterman's other owned show) will feature *only* WGA-written material, no guests. Something tells me that the AMPTP will be steaming...

Did anyone actually watch Leno last night to see how the show went without writers? That's too late for me to be up.

I didn't watch it but it's discussed on Deadline Hollywood Daily (Nikke Finke's site). Sounds like he wrote and admited to writing his own monologue which is a no-no since he's a guild member. Word is that it was funny, though.

Well, it depends on how you define "funny". If you define funny as "stubbing your toe, then taking a hacksaw and cutting the toe off to end the pain while the entire world watches" then yes, you'd have it right.

It was painful. It was horrible. It was the least funny he's ever been, and that's saying a lot.

I just saw that as well. It will be interesting to see how the WGA wants to do with that admission.

I kind of ran through this thread really quickly but not sure if anyone discussed this that there looks to be an actors strike in June or July if I've heard correctly so..even if the writers strike gets settled it may take a while to get anything going anyways since the actors are about to end their contracts. So we may not see much of anything for a while.

I heard that the writer's strike is now over does that mean more new Lost Tales are in the offing in the very near future?

Well, we can hope for it, I guess.

And you almost gave me a heart attack when I saw that thread's title, well, at least the first part of it, on the main page... "New Lost Tales a go!!!" I thought I'd missed out on something completely.

I had a very similar reaction just now too.

Well, we can't go losing any of our posters due to heart attacks, now, can we? I just changed the subject line to something a little less cardiac damaging.

JMS's spotlight at WonderCon is tomorrow afternoon so if there's any news on the Lost Tales front you can be sure I'll post it soonest. (Hey, Jon! Bring your laptop, okay? )
