  • Babylon 5 CD soundtracks

I was wondering if some of you could help me with regards to the CD sound tracks since judging on the pictures on eBay it seems like lots of the CD soundtracks seemed to be "shaped" discs. Is it just poor picture quality or are the majority of CD soundtracks "shaped" CDs?

I was also wondering if anyone can tell me which of the episode soundtracks are NOT shaped CDs. And I was wondering if people could tell me what they think their favourite Babylon 5 soundtrack CDs are stating whether they are shaped or just regular CDs.

    Is Sleeping in Light "shaped"?

    Thanks in advance.

PS can someone please post the linked to the site that sells Christopher Franke Babylon 5 CDs since I seem to have lost the web address. Thanks again.

ALL of the CDs are standard plastic circles with a metal disk inside and the design painted on. None of them are odd shapes at all.

    Favorites in no particular order:

    Sleeping in Light
In the Beginning (particularly track #6)
    The Best of Babylon 5
    A Late Delivery from Avalon
    Severed Dreams

Here you go. the long way is to go to sonicimages.com then click on Christopher Franke and then Babylon 5.

No, they're not shaped, though it does look like that in the pictures doesn't it. The outer edge of the discs are clear and see-through because only part of the disc contains the material on which the disc is burned. I assume it was done that way because each episodic soundtrack CD is only about 30 minutes of music. What looks like a carved shape is only just the surface label against the clearness of the outer edge. The disc is still totally circular like a regular disc.

      Sonic Images

EDIT: Jan and I collide once again.

Oh, and I should to include a list of some of my favorite soundtracks, I guess. My favorites include: Severed Dreams, Sleeping In Light, The Coming Of Shadows, The Fall Of Night, Walkabout (I actually quite like Cailyn's songs), Z'ha'dum, The Best of Babylon 5 (having seasons 2, 3, 4, and 5's main themes, the destruction of B5 music, and the bonus theme is nice), and The Lost Tales soundtrack.

The only one I don't have is And The Rock Cried Out No Hiding Place because every time I've checked, it says it's out of stock. I haven't ever looked for it on amazon.com or anything, though; maybe I should.

Oh, and here's what the Sonic Images site says about the look of the CDs:

These specialty "Episodic" CDs feature cool, innovative designs. Due to the technology of partial- metalization, the CD itself has transparent parts. It looks dye-cut, but is still round and therefore playable on any CD unit including car stereos.
I do want to note though, I tried playing one of the episodic CDs in a car CD player once and it wouldn't play. I assume it was because of the partial metalization. But the CDs have always played in every other CD player I've tried.

Correct me if I'm wrong: isn't 'Rock' the CD that was offered as a promo by the B5 Magazine? If so, I presume that would make it more difficult to find.

That's correct, Joe. They also sent it as an apology extra if an order was incorrect and did sell it for a while. It looks like it's sold out now, though. I've noticed the list getting shorter and shorter so it doesn't look like they're manufacturing any more as title sell out.
