  • Franklin/Garibaldi Army of Light Uniform Question

Is there any reason why Garibaldi and Franklin never got to wear those leather waistcoat things that Sheridan and Ivanova got?

They were probably indicative of command.

Garibaldi refused to wear them because they made his bum look big.

On a practical note both F&G were "working guys" with daily interaction and hands on relationship with people, and a vestywaistcoatything would actually be a detriment to doing their jobs.

Maybe it was colder in C&C.
Ivanova was almost always in uniform when in C&C and never in a tshirt so we could not really tell definatively.

Maybe the wardrobe department was saving a few bucks.

Heralding back to (and bolstering) my command comment earlier, I seem to recall that Sheridan and Ivanova wore the vestments only when commanding a Whitestar (or the fleet) and when presiding over the Council Chambers.

I liked those waistcoats a lot. I thought the black uniform with the command waistcoat was one of the more unusual and flattering uniform designs in sci-fi (alongside the red polo-neck and flares uniforms from the movie-era Trek) and I missed them when they were absent from season 5. I guess if Ivanova had stayed she would probably have continued to wear it.

In one of the cast commentaries (for Convictions, maybe?), the actor praised the AoL uniforms for their comfort and stylish appearance.

Just guessing here but maybe Bruce and Claudia were putting on some weight and they used the waistcoat like Gates McFadden did for her Beverly Crusher role in TNG when she was pregnant and wore a labcoat for most of her scenes that season to hide her pregnancy.

Other than that, not a clue other than what was mentioned earlier that it was an RHIP (rank has its privileges) thing and F/G are workers.

On a side note, never cared much for the AOL uniforms/costumes. Just wondering if they really were uncomfortable as Zach was always complaining or where they playing homage to the actors in the first Trek movie who hated their costumes because they were so uncomfortable.

I thought Zak was complaining about his Earthforce security uniform?

I definitely recall Julie Mosante (sp?) mentioning his uniform didn't fit. I know she was well off the station before the AoL uniforms were handed out in the rebirth ceremony.

Correct, Musante was referring to his Earth Force uniform but in the episode he was getting fitted for his AOL uniform he was squirming and complaining about how much it itched and Leneer gave him the history of the plant the uniform fibers was made of, just about the time one of the Minbari tailors stuck him with a needle.
