Hey, I bought a few issues of the Babylon 5 Magazine, and was surprised to find one of them came with a brochure/booklet from Forbidden Planet. It was a marvel to see all the old merchandise, especially some of the replication uniforms: season 1 - 2 (male), season 1 - 2 (female), rebel uniform, rebel uniform with jacket.

I really loved the B5 Magazine and was really bummed when they quit publishing it. Yeah, no more B5 was coming out but I'm sure there were still stories for the cast and crew to tell (not to mention Joe Nazzaro Interviews ) And I loved the JMS "Last Word" columns every month, too.

Believe me, there was more than enough material to keep the magazine going for years, although I'm not all that sure I would have continued to be a big part of it, not because I didn't want to but because Titan had a writer and photographer on the ground who were eventually spending a big chunk of time on set. In fact, by season five, if I was planning to go out there, I had to tell them well ahead of time to 'reserve' that episode for myself. Frankly it didn't bother me one way or another, because I had already established my reputation for writing about the series, if the B5 Magazine didn't want the material, I would have just done it for somebody else, which is in fact what I eventually did. So I guess there was some advantage to having been there if not first, well, maybe second. I've always been quick to point out that Mark Altman was pretty much the first journalist to cover B5 for CFQ, but after reading his first piece, I was very quick to track the series pilot down.

If I sound nostalgic, it's because I'm about halfway through transcribing some of these old B5 interviews I just found, and they're really taking me back memory-wise. I'm in the middle of listening to a conversation with DP John Flinn, which seems to have been done during the filming of 'Atonement,' and it's really strange to hear all those familiar voices and side conversations goin on in the background.

After JMS, the people I'd always wanted to personally thank for B5 were Doug Netter (finally did that at SDCC this year) John Copeland (sent thanks via a kind person who had his email a while back and John Flinn. Not that anybody's contribution was unimportant, they're just the ones I kind of focused on.

So when do we get the book, Joe?

I think it might be plural as in books, I did a quick tally of interview material and came up with about 400,000 words, with 50,000 just on 'The Gathering.' I guess we'll just have to write the first one and see what happens after that.

I did, way back around Red Dwarf VI. I didn't do a huge amount, because I was writing a book on Red Dwarf at the time, so most of my coverage was earmarked for that project.
