  • WB schedule announcement date!

scifi.com has this to say in an article named WB Close To Jack Pickup: The WB makes its official schedule announcement on May 18 in New York.

So, those who thought that "wrong side of the river" meant NY - you were right!

    You have a good eye.

An X-men 3 in the making?

I notice only two of the writers involved in X-2 have signed on as of yet. With a title this ambitious, I can only hope the sequel upholds the standards set by the previous two.

May 18th =) can't wait, thx for sharing.

      A question to you though...
i see in your sig that Babcon XIV as a few days ago?
Did you go? was it good? some news please

I am really interested in these things as i have never been to one (due to my own patheticness of not wanting to go on my own, and my friends' patheticness in not liking sci-fi )
I believe that my none participating in these activities as a kid has lead to my overly obssesiveness of these activities as an adult. In short, i blame my parents.

This announcement is about the WB television line-up. If TMoS is in fact a feature, they wouldn't be making that announcement there and then.

Yep, we have known all along that WB was planning their TV season announcements around the ides of May in New York (and every other network is doing the same), which is why "New York mid-May" combined with "the project is not a TV series" was so confusing.

I am looking forward to JMS explaining the "wrong side of the river" clue.

You will note that the linked website also discussed James Cameron's new SF project:
Director James Cameron told SCI FI Wire that he will begin shooting his ambitious, as-yet-untitled SF movie as soon as this November with the 3-D high-definition video cameras he developed for his Titanic documentary Ghosts of the Abyss. "I'm writing it," Cameron said in an interview at the Saturn Awards ceremony in Los Angeles. "It's very futuristic; [it] takes place in a distant future, and [there's] lots of wild action and amazing characters and, hopefully, a very emotional journey as well. We're setting that up for release ... about this time of the year in 2006, Memorial Day or somewhere around that."
          Coincidence? Probably.

I believe that when we leave a place, part of it goes with us and part of us remains. Go anywhere in the station, when it is quiet, and just listen. After a while, you will hear the echoes of all our conversations, every thought and word we've exchanged. Long after we are gone .. our voices will linger in these walls for as long as this place remains. But I will admit .. that the part of me that is going .. will very much miss the part of you that is staying.

It's looks like Cameron new SF is Battle Angel Alita. I haven't seen it but I think it's anime or something similar. Looking forward to it.

                  1. I'm convinced that WB making its TV announcements this week has nothing to do with B5:TMoS, which is almost certainly a theatrical film. (The network "up-fronts" only involve TV production.)

                  2. Cameron is writing his own film, which clearly isn't the new B5 project.

In any event I seriously doubt that JMS would agree to work with any director who fancies himself a writer. Something like Rising Stars, where JMS and TopCow sold the movie rights in a property they jointly owned was a different kind of deal. JMS was only contracted to write one or two script drafts, although he was supposed to be notified before other writers were brought in.

But B5:TMoS is an original screenplay and while he obviously have to take notes and input from others I can't see him letting anyone else run his script through their word processor. Especially Cameron, who isn't exactly a great (or original) writer - least of all of SF films.

As someone else in here noted, though, all signs right now point to Cameron's project being Alita, an adaptation of a manga/animÚ, which should give him some solid ground upon which to construct a decent screenplay.

Historically speaking, he's generally worked at his creative best in a collaborative process with other writers: Aliens (David Giler and Walter Hill), T2 (William Wisher), Strange Days (Jay Cocks). Assuming by "I'm writing it," he means "We're writing it," and if his co-scenarist is someone of relative aplomb, we could be in for something special.

(Then again -- having a $300 million kitty to draw from is going to make folks watch you no matter what you do...)

But as JMS openly admits himself B5 gave him Heart Problems by the end. It was very nearly too much for even him.

It would probably be helpful for him to have someone else to ease him into the movie making business.

And who says another director would want to make the movie his own. Babylon 5 has been around for a while and the visual tone of it is already set.

A good director would be able to expand on it, but not destroy it.

In has last update jms implied there were multiple B5 projects in the works.

Yes, he also implied that TMoS was a movie, but a new B5 tv series is still within the realm of possibility.

The only problem with that is that I don't see the WB network really being the place for a B5 show. Unless there was a lot of teen angst in it.

Too bad. I was sort of hoping that FX technology had advanced enough to where he could finally do his Avatar script without it costing the GNP of a small South American nation...

Yes, but not for September 2005, and almost certainly not on the WB. So there still wouldn't be anything related to such a thing that could be announced this week or next. And JMS's original "ides of may" post pre-dated any mention of any non-B5:TMoS projects and very possibly pre-dated any interest in such projects.
