  • Ranking B5

Alright, this'll be a fairly interesting and complicated semi-poll to see. Here's what I think will be interesting. Place all of B5 in order from best to worst (or least best as some of us would think). To simplify it some..let's consolodate the seasons into full seasons rather than individual episodes. Best on top, worst on bottom So like this:

    1. Season 1
    2. In The Beginning..
    3. Season 3
    4. Crusade

etc. (this does not reflect my actual views )

I'll post mine after I watch TLT, which..I'm ashamed to say I haven't done yet. What? I'm doing the group watch!

I'm just curious to see how all of you rate things, and where TLT falls in that rating.

I believe that we've done this before, but...

    1. Season 2
    2. ItB
    3. Season 4
    4. Season 3
    5. Season 1
    6. The Gathering
    7. VitD
    8. ACtA
    9. Crusade
    10. Season 5
    11. Thirdspace
    12. RoS
    13. LotR
Recently, there was a reckoning. It occurred on November 4, 2014 across the United States. Voters, recognizing the failures of the current leadership and fearing their unchecked abuses of power, elected another party as the new majority. This is a first step toward preventing more damage and undoing some of the damage already done. Hopefully, this is as much as will be required.

      My first time doing this

      1. Season 3-WWE and Z'HA'DUM put the Icing on the cake
      2. ItB-The Earth/Minbari War was one of the best ever movies ever seen!
      3. Season 4-(my reasons for this after smiles finishes the 4th season)
      4. Season 5-Series Finale and th few episodes leading up to it
      5. Season 2-Seeing Bruce take over and all the Shadow stuff/Kosh revealed
      6. Season 1-A lot of character development & small plot development/foreshadows but not as good as season 2-5
      7. The Gathering-Not the greatest of the movies but a very good intro to the characters and B5 universe
      8. VitD-Voices in the Dark-Very very good movie..I was impressed It was only beat out by The Gathering because the Gathering is the intro
      9. ACtA (A Call To Arms)-I love it still must watch Crusade
      10. Thirdspace-reasons soon!
      11. LotR (Legend of the Rangers)-reasons after we finish (I know I'm in the minority but I actually love this more than RoS) I enjoyed it
      12. RoS (River of Souls)-reasons after we finish
      -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Crusade-I can't comment because I don't own it just yet and haven't watched them as of yet.. comment's within the next couple months so I can't rank this yet

        This is easy

        1. Season 3
        2. Season 4
        3. Season 2
        4. A Call to Arms
        5. Crusade
        6. In the Beginning
        7. Season 1
        8. Legend of the Rangers
        9. Thirdspace
        10. Season 5
        11. The Gathering
        12. River of Souls

To early to place TLT. Also its like apples and oranges.

          Okay, that sounds like fun

          1. Season 4 / Season 3 (tie for first)
          2. Season 2
          3. Season 1
          4. Thirdspace
          5. A Call to Arms
          6. Season 5
          7. Crusade
          8. In the Beginning
          9. Legend of the Rangers
          10. River of Souls
          11. The Gathering

Hmmm, looks like S1-S4 come up trumps on my list! In the Beginning seems the most divisive so far.. I put it as low as seemed reasonable because I don't like it much..

OK, that would be my ranking:

            1. Season 4
            2. Season 3
            3. Season 2
            4. In the Beginning
            5. Season 5
            6. Season 1
            7. A Call to Arms
            8. Crusade
            9. River of Souls
            10. The Gathering
            11. Voices in the Dark (only that, to early to mention TLT as a whole)
            12. Thirdspace

After that, nothing, for a very long time, and finally...:

            13. Legend of the Rangers (feels more like "no. 168")

Hmm, tricky. I'm actually fiding this easier by working up from the bottom!

              13. Legend of the Rangers *shudder*
              12. River of Souls (Puts me to sleep)
              11. Thirdspace (Meh)
              10. A Call to Arms (Not bad)
              9. The Gathering (TNT version is OK)
              8. Crusade (Showed some promise)
              7. Season 1 (Shaky start, but some real highlights)
              6. Season 2 (Getting better)
              5. Voices in the Dark (will probably fluctuate, but right now I really like it)
              4. Season 5 (for the brilliant second half - just try not to 'Remember Byron'! :^D )
              3. In the Beginning (Beautifully made)
=1. Season 3 (tied - gets in for WWE and Z'ha'adum)
              =1. Season 4 (tied - generally genius)

                  0. Legend of the Rangers - joke entry
                  1. Season 3 - First place for most complete production
                  2. Season 2 - Best Standalone story lines
                  3. Season 4 - Third place because the wars were ended too promptly
                  4. Crusade - And all the other amazing shows cancelled in their first year.
                  5. In the Beginning
                  6. Season 5

Am I the only one that doesn't hate LOTR? I thought it was leaps and bounds above River of Souls.. OK granted it wasn't the best thing ever made but the special effects a few of the actors did a great job especially Andreas plus the little nod to the first season at the end when G'Kar goes back to B5 and talks about how no one is exactly how he or she appears.

Well, I think you are not alone, but I assume most people - including me -would agree that LotR belongs to the worst things ever produced in the B5 universe. I do not "hate" it, but for me it never fitted really into the universe, and actually most of the writing, the acting and the effects really sucked in my opinion (G'Kar's guest appearence is very nice, of course, but it doesn't make it really better).
Perhaps it would be different if the pilot had developed into a series focussing on the leftover Crusade-plots, but that never happened, and as a standalone it really doesn't work for me.
But I do not want to start a new "LotR - good or bad" discussion here because we already did this so often...

Sorry, but I won't compare apples and oranges.

                        TV Seasons, Best to Worst*
                        B5 Season 3
                        B5 Season 4
                        B5 Season 2
                        B5 Season 1/Crusade (tie)
B5 Season 5 (dragged down because of Byron, the Claudia situation, and the wrap-up in Season 4 leaving little for Season 5, and elevated because of the Centauri arc.)
*I have a hard time characterizing any of these as "Worst."

I don't "hate" B5:LotR, but I found a lot of it cringe-worthy, and have trouble watching it because of that. IMHO, if Sarah's scenes were edited together, back-to-back, especially the minefield destruction scene, the resultant clip would make an excellent torture device. I agree that most of the writing (especially Sarah's lines ) and a lot of the effects sucked. As for the acting, I thought Alex Zahara (Dulann) was great. I also liked Na'feel (Jennie Rebecca Hogan) and Firell (Enid-Raye Adams). I think Dylan Neal (David Martel) was very good if he was in a scene with Dulann, OK as long as he wasn't being Mr. Connect-the-Dots Exposition or in a scene with Sarah Cantrell (Myriam Sirois), who dragged down every scene she was in, partly because she got 99% of the awful lines. I think Andreas (G'Kar) was wasted in this. He had some bad lines as well.

                          I'd have to say:
                          1) Season 3
                          2) Season 4
                          3) Season 2
                          4) Season 1
                          5) Season 5

I loved Season 3 because of "Severed Dreams" which is my all time favorite episode. Season 4 would rank 2nd because I loved the tension with the march towards Earth to deal with President Clark.

I'd have to give it more thought with regards to the ranking of the Movies, Crusade, LOTR and TLT.
