  • TLT Best Buy Exclusive

According to this week's newspaper ad (also online), Best Buy has the Comic Con comic as an instore exclusive.

The local BB has the disc for 17.99. As I believe they do regional weekly ads (some regions of the country get different sales items than others)* you may want to double check the price, but I don't see them changing it.

    * This is usually done so sirconditioners aren't put on sale in Montana in February

Anyone able and willing to get that comic for me? I don't need the DVD, already preordered it on amazon.com (and still awaiting the delivery notice ), but as someone who needs about everything there is about Babylon 5, that comic definitely is a must have.

Of course I would pay for delivery and would also pay a reasonable price for the comic. Whoever's interested, please PM' me. Thanks!

If the comics are loose and not packaged in with the disc, I'll see if I can score a couple of extras. No promises though...

(I'm calling in sick on Tuesday to be at BB first thing in the morning.)

Did they really have just 6 copies, or were there lots of copies of the disc there?

I was in the store at about 10 after 10 and it already looked like they didn't have a lot on the shelf. They only had one pocket dedicated to the disc on their "New Releases" section. Whereas, 300 and even a crappy movie like Pathfinder had multiple pockets...

Of course, they could have had more stock in the back and the flunky who put them out thought that some of the other titles would be better sellers.

I almost didn't see the disc as the Best Buy price sticker was placed in the usual upper right hand corner of the case- right over the B5 logo! Some cover designer at Warner Home Video will need to fix that placement for Volume 2. (Thinking positive folks!)

I have to admit that while I love BB's prices, their corporate attitude towards what they stock in DVD really stinks. About a year ago I was looking for a Harold Lloyd collection that had been released and was advertised in their weekly circular. After spending 15 minutes scanning through the comedy and new releases section, I finally asked a clerk for help. He looked on their inventory computer to see if they still had any in stock. They had four copies- racked in the drama section! It wasn't just a case of some high school aged part-timer who didn't know who Harold Lloyd was (though that's no excuse because I knew who he was in middle school), it was a corporate screw-up. Right on the BB pricetag was the little "dra" code for employees to know that it should be placed in "Drama." I guess someone in their corporate office saw that it was silent and in black and white, and decided that it couldn't be anything other than a drama, because comedy wasn't invented until the Farrelly Brothers or something. I pointed out the mistake to the clerk, stating that if the product is racked in the wrong area, customers won't be able to find it to buy. He said he'd tell a manager and have them pass it up the corporate ladder, but about 8 or 9 months later, the Lloyd collection DVDs were still sitting in drama, unsold.

I was at Best Buy at opening and they had none of the DVD's with the comic packaged in. They didn't even know what I was talking about until I showed them their ad. Needless to say I was extremely disappointed.

I couldn't get there until 11 ... They had only two copies left, mine and one that somebody had already opened up and stolen the comic out of!

                WTF???

First, how stupid to only carry 6 in the store (yes, they only got the bare minimum per store here) and second, who opens a dvd like that to steal the comic? That's big time bad Karma there.

Just because there are only X number of copies on display does not mean there aren't more in the back room. I can't tell you how many times I've had somebody at Best Buy check stock on a new release that simply hasn't been put back out. Generally, they'll check stock on the computer first, and if you get somebody who's not totally brain-damaged, they're usually willing to go in the back and take a look, unlike Circuit City, where usually tell me they're out of stock and don't even bother to check, at which point, I drive two miles down the road to Best Buy and match the CC price with their flyer, so no harm done.

The Boog is curious. Just when does the comic take place in the B5 timeline? Around the same time as the DVD?

It doesn't really say in the comic, but I'd assume it's around the time of the DVD. It's after G'kar came back from adventuring with Lyta at least. It doesn't really matter though honestly. It's more of a tribute to the actors than a key storyline component.

Just bought one on ebay. Shipping to Austria is more expensive than the comic itself, but what the heck...

                          BB stinks...

I got there at opening, everyone else was there for the 300 video..according to the guy I finally asked..after searching for the dvd anywhere.
They were only supposed to get 44 at their store and hadn't gotten them yet. Right.
I got a raincheck and the 'suggested retail' is 22.99. I also saw that he hadn't changed the preferred contact and it was set to 'mail'. Hell no!
I told him the price should be 17.99 and my preferred contact was my cell phone. The second copy came out with the price unchanged and the phone number being my home.
Never...ever...going to shop there. Not a friendly feel at all. Granted this was tuesday and within twenty minutes they had forty people in line... If my copy does not come in with the comic, I'm going to vocally complain and get a manager involved.
I have pre ordered mine from Amazon as well, but want that comic.

                          Speaking of...
The comic is a memorial to G'kar and Franklin. There is no setting because it is a situation that did not actually happen in the timeline but is a scene that JMS imagined might have happened. (you know what I mean)
It's not a full size comic either folks. This is a small piece that was created out of love for two talented actors and the characters they played.

Thanks Pam. I'll cross my fingers that it works out for ya. I went to Virgin Megastore in SF, and there were none out front..it was all kinda hidden and I had to search hard for it. The lack of promotion is not making me happy. I'm watching teh special features now, while at work lol
