  • Group Watch: The Summoning

My laziness gets us very far behind, with only a week to go!

So..Zach gets some leads on Garabaldi, finds him, he's back...but something's wrong! It worked really well, almost the entire season my girlfriend just kept saying "he's such an asshole!" Nice twist there later on.

Delenn tries to organize a strike against the shadows, and I guess she just doesn't have the charisma of Sheridan. The league of non-aligned worlds lost their will for war, whining about how they haven't been attacked since Z'ha'dum, etc. I'll spare you my political commentary that can obviously arise from this if you'll spare me yours. It's a nice little surprise at the end when Sheridan does actually come back, with his new advisor who we never really learn that much about other than what Lorien directly tells us.

JMS gives us further reasons not to like the Vorlons with this new one. Lyta just gets thrown around by him. How come the hot chicks always go for the jerks?

I now have watched later on, and I realize that it wasn't Edgars from Garibaldi's memories. Just some random psi-cop.

And of course, the G'Kar torture moments. Really hard to watch they do such a good job.

Plot's starting to pick back up at this point after a first two episodes of exposition to the season. I think this season has no non-arc episodes, pretty darn fast paced, and hard to stop watching. How on earth did I go by waiting a week in between episodes back in 97? lol

In a way the closest 2 episodes that may come close to non arc episodes are The Deconstruction of Falling Stars and perhaps The Illusion of Truth. Oviously The Illusion of Truth does contain a lot of stuff featuring the crew especially the broadcast itself that gets the crew upset but even though The Deconstruction of Falling Stars does reveal some stuff in the future it's still somewhat a non arc episode. I didn't reveal too much spoilers either.

Now for this episode..not a whole lot to talk about that you already mentioned. I love the way Sheridan comes back. Seeing G'Kar being whipped reminded me a lot of Denzel Washington in Glory very reminscent. I read on the lurkers guide that G'Kars refusal to scream was foreshadowed in the first season episode The Parliament of Dreams..didn't think about that but it's kind of cool. Another great scene but scary in this episode was when Ivanova and Marcus see the Vorlon fleet in hyperspace with the planet killer. I also love the way Garibaldi keeps looking at Lorien but like you said more on that later this season.

    Great episode and very memorable!

I find I have a lot less to say on the episodes where I don't have the scriptbooks. JMS really adds a lot in his own analysis.
