Yeah - i'm quite optimistic about this but i'll rather wait
    1) when 'stage two' is complete and
    2) official announcement.

I'll second that. I don't won't to have my hopes up and then all of a sudden their dashed because WB killed it or something. I hope you guys are right, but show some patience and wait for the official announcment from JMS or WB.

It's not that I don't think it would be a good movie, with JMS writing and producing it would be a master peace but no one aside from us fan would see it and then we'll loss any chance at a new series because if it wont work in film most production companies wont want to take a chance with TV and I think in the end that's what we all really want is a new series no movie can ever show the grand scope that is B5.

angain just the way i see things
Our chances of seeing a new TV series were slim to none beforehand - what makes you think they'll be any better if nothing were to happen with B5 now?

And hell, the ultimate counterexample - Buffy the Vampire Slayer ranks amongst the crappiest movies made. 5 people saw it because Luke Perry was in it. Someone still let it have a shot at the small screen, and hell yeah did it roll.

Have a little heart - something is happening. And even if we get nothing else thereafter... B5 will still have yet another one last hurrah.

The thing is, the deal is done. It has a greenlight and is going to happen or JMS would never have told us anything. What he's referring to as "stage two" is contract negotiations with cast and crew. While as he put it, this is tedious stuff, it in no way can kill the project. It might alter it somewhat if someone balks and JMS has to do some form of re-write.

On the other hand...no matter what, I don't see any cast balking. They'll try their damnedest to get the best deal for them, but in the end I don't see any cast not coming back. They know as well as we do that this is the opportunity of a lifetime.

If this process weren't going well, JMS wouldn't have dropped such an incredibly awesome hint to us now. He would've waited until the waters calmed. By the very fact that he said something so cool and insightful now, indicates to me that while "stage two" is tedious, it is going well and he's pretty confident there are no problems. The next stage is production.

Even if they hit a snag now...WB will continue with the project, they'll just have to overcome whatever the snag is. So B5:TMoS is a go...JMS has told us this clearly.

So...I'll celebrate now...and dance the night away again when the "official" announcement comes. The only thing we're waiting for on the official announcement is specifics and just what the hell TMoS stands for! The project is a go either way.

              Happy dance some more!!!!!!

              CE

PS: Cronan...the reason you're seeing so many posts now, as opposed to when you first signed up here, is because you signed up during the lull between JMS hints. Had you signed up after the first big hint from JMS a few months back or during any of the subsequent hints, you would've seen this kind of traffic then as well. It tends to get quiet after we've all speculated each other to death over each morsel JMS tosses us. Then he throws out another and the frenzy starts anew. You have to give him this...JMS is a master at knowing just how and when to stir the fan pot! Although this is the biggest and best hint since the release of the acronym, "TMoS."

I honestly don't see the logic behind the claim that the B5 fanbase is a liability. It is much larger than, say, the Philp K. Dick fanbase was before "Bladerunner" and probably bigger than the Heinlein fan base before "Starship Trooper" and yet both of those movies were made. I would argue that the B5 fan base is larger than the ST fan base when the first ST movie came out (though not that B5 was as big a cultural icon).

The fact of the matter is that WB knows they have a sizable fan base who will see the movie (and drag along noncombattants) no matter how the reviews come out, and so that is an argument to go with a theatrical release, not avoid it.

So I think that the movie will certainly be made (the show-stoppers were in phase 1 of the plan) and what follows afterward will depend on its success. I also think the "second front" will possibly reach fruition before the first.

So this seems news that is all win-win and don't understand the naysayers. The one potential fly in the ointment is JMS's ability to write a sustained two-hour drama... and I think he probably has learned from TLotR not to delay introducing the crisis.
I believe that when we leave a place, part of it goes with us and part of us remains. Go anywhere in the station, when it is quiet, and just listen. After a while, you will hear the echoes of all our conversations, every thought and word we've exchanged. Long after we are gone .. our voices will linger in these walls for as long as this place remains. But I will admit .. that the part of me that is going .. will very much miss the part of you that is staying.

I don't know what to say, I'm just so happy that something is happening in the B5 universe, and especially if it is a film (or a series). Of course we knew that already, but this latest post by JMS just strenghtened my hope that this will be the best thing since sliced bread...or at least since Crusade was cancelled.

The monk who murders could be a reference to the Season 3 episode "Passing Through Gethsemane". Although I did not like it my self it is a lot of people's favourite episode. Religious violence is in at the moment.

It may be a remake of the episode or possibly what happens after the mindwipe.

Ironically, I was planning on posting this tonight assuming there was no new news, and here I log on and find a new clue that supports my theory.

I was watching the cast commentary on "Geometry of Shadows" and I noticed that all three people on the commentary made a rather extended reference to wanting to do a movie. I can't remember the exact wording, but they definatly referenced a B5 movie. Whether or not this is a coincidence is pure speculation.

Just something else to think about.

All I know is right now I'm feeling pretty good to see a lot of my ascretions that it would be a theatrical film seem to come to fruitation

I think another thing we all have to keep in mind there (for those who are doubtful of whether or not B5 could make a project), besides the already excellent examples of SF movies with smaller fan bases getting made, is that JMS is notorious for creating a staff that can run a TV show on a profit. With that reputation, WB would naturally be even more eager to go for a movie on the basis that even if it dosen't sell that well, chances are the current fan base would be able to pay for enough of it that the chances of them losing any sort of significant cash is quite low, compared to the equally viable chance that it could sell quite well and thier profit margain could be extremely large.

Plus, let's be honest... there haven't been too many quality SF movies lately. The idea of a well-written SF movie that could score with critics, that could be run on a small budget with an already established fan base is pretty damn appealing.

(On another subject, this is my freakin 200th post here, and with the project starting to get swinging as it is, probably won't take much longer for me to get another 200 )

There no was B5 now has more fans then ST had when it's first movie came out that total BS (I'm no ST fan but come on let be realistic 100,000 people wrote in to get the show back and that was a small % of them)

As for "Bladerunner" and "Starship Trooper" they did get made and they had a much smaller fan base. But guess what both did jack all at the Box office, and "Bladerunner" is IMO one of the best sci-fi movies ever made.

Now for any one who dares to say that I don't have faith in B5, **** ***, my ignorant friends let me enlighten you, unlike the US who had UPN showing B5, up here in Canada four station dropped the show each one showing a different season, I wrote letter begging each and every one of them to renew the show, as I'm sure many other up here did. I didnÆt finish watching season 5 in till two years after B5 was over, for the love of spoo you Americans think you had it bad but you have no idea how hard it was for every one else. I'm sorry if I'm making a general statement here but I'm way to angry to respond the jerk who said I have no faith in B5, let me tell you I HAD FAITH IN B5 LONG BEFOUR YOU EVER KNEW ABOUT IT, I WAS ONE OF THE FIRST REAL B5 FANS, I HAD TO DEAL WITH CARPY STAR TREK FANS WHO WOULD MAKE FUNN OF THE SHOW.

The avalanche has already begun it is to late for the pebbles to vote.

yeh and look who has had the last laugh.

Look at Star Trek Now - it is dead in the water.

I hear Berman is on about making another movie - personally I think it will be **** like the last one. He might as well quit.

Years ago when I tuned into the first ep of B5 I raved on to my family about how good this really was. Within a few weeks they also were hooked. I still rave about it , even after buying it on dvd years later the show is still better than ST. Nothing like it has really grabbed my attention since SIL finished and i said (or I thought I did) Goodbye.

And now it looks like more is to come.

It is now time for us fans to join together and spread the word. We all know how good B5 is but for a Movie to be a sucess we have to encourage others to go and see it. The best way is by word of mouth, or force feed them B5 ( we have the dvds - make em watch em! ).

When the official word comes ( I am sure it will ,just when? ) then we should all have a massive party.

Of course, B5 cannot go on for ever. When jms goes down, B5 goes down with him.
