Previous Clues

If I recall JMS said that there would be something to announce near the Ides of May and on the other (far?/wrong?) side of the river.

One way to view that is around May 8-12 across the river from New York in...New Jersey.

Well, well, well did not JMS just tell us he was going to be in NJ on May 8?

Of course it's a theatrical movie! JMS is clearly frustrated with not being able to come right out and say what the new project is, and he's not about to drop an atom bomb of a clue like that unless he's pretty clear about the interpretation he expects people to draw. We're getting at least one big-screen outing of B5 people. Celebrate.

Finally confirmation that it is a feature film and that the mere fact that WB is moving towards making it has got other interested in the series. I'm not worried about the "franchise" near-term. I am in complete and total agreement with JDM here. This is wonderful news. This may be the a sign of things I've heard elsewhere and that they are in fact the case.

JMS talked about a lot of money. This is a fantastic sign. 2.35:1 is definately a "I can't tell you but I can hint big time" line to let us know that TMoS is a feature film...at least one. Multiple fronts? I have my suspicions here, but I'm gonna hold them for now. If you really want to know them...look up some old posts of mine on here where I stated them.

I agree with JDM and others that I have no worry about the "franchise" since this is a singular and passionate vision of one man...JMS, and that WB is extremely respectful of just what wonder and power he brings to all things B5. B5 is unique in that it has such a man as JMS and a respect from a studio for him like that of WB. This is a rare combination in the industry. It doesn't fit the Trek bill and I'm sorry, while FIREFLY was good and all, it was NO B5. Whedon to me is an amateur compared to JMS on character, story, passion and vision.

Now, it becomes our burden folks. All of this new wonder in B5 will ours to support in a big way. If we're not behind JMS and these new offerings 2000%, B5 could finally meet the Great Maker. We have to put the word out...drag friends to the film(s), loan out our DVDs of S1-5 to bring up new fans. It's time to put B5 on the map and show the rest of the world what wonders we've seen and experienced thanks to JMS. Perhaps the rest of the world can learn as we have just how B5 can change you.

Ok, I have to stop now...I'm getting seriously misty eyed.

This is good news, i really hope that Babylon 5 will make it to the big screen.

JMS may have left another clue in that post.

In the Season 4 episode ôThe deconstruction of falling starsö when the monks where talking about the past and the great burn, JMS said on the commentary that some day he would like to make a series out of this idea.

don't get me wrong I'd love to see a B5 film

it's just that well..... I don't feel that theres a masive fan base for it, you can go on and on about the rise of fantasy due to LOTR and the mass amounts of comic book movies out there, but you should understand that there is a big diference between B5 and LOTR. first off LOTR has been ganing speed for 50 years geting bigger and biger thats why if worked it was part of out popculture.

As for comic book the reason that there are so many it that they don't have to be that intelgent and they can appeal to a wider group of people, when it comes to sci-fi it's really hard to be profitable (which is the reason that movies are made for the most part) enless you have ideas that have a masive fan base or use sci-fi as onlt a back drop shuch as pichblack and the Ridik cronicles or starship troopers most other sci-fi movies folp, I can't even remeber one in the last 15 years (aside form Star wars) that was not action with sci-fi back ground and even then most floped anyone remeber soilder or wing commander(i swarethe only reason that it made money was because it had the SW prevuwe).

It's not that I don't think it would be a good movie, with JMS writing and producing it would be a master peace but no one aside from us fan would see it and then we'll loss any chance at a new series because if it wont work in film most production companies wont want to take a chance with TV and I think in the end that's what we all really want is a new series no movie can ever show the grand scope that is B5.

Soldier was yet another remake of Shane, and Wing Commander was teen crap. Neither movie deserved to be a hit. Pitch Black wasn't a great movie either, but Vin Diesel's star is in ascendence, so the studio looks for a sequel. You don't have to have a following to make a picture. Most films come from original stories and some come from lesser-known commodities. Not all films have to have a franchise to begin with. This is simply WB capitalizing on its association with JMS. Against the odds, the DVDs have put money in their pockets and money fuels ambition. They've been sitting on B5 for several years and they're finally ready to take a gamble.

Not likely.

I like this storyline but JMS said that 'stage two' is taking long time and i belive that is because B5 stars are trying to make good deals. But Monks storyline is 500 years future of B5 - so it means he can't use current B5 characters.

It is very good storyline (for a feature) - it doesnt need any previous B5 knowledge to understand it.

Perhaps it's my understanding of the biz...but people who have no faith in B5 to be a box-office draw simply don't understand how the business works and to them I say, oh yee of little faith.

People who have no faith in B5 or its following and the shear size of B5's and JMS's following always stun me. B5 and JMS have a huge fan base...and more are coming on board with the release of the DVD's. Not to mention, any SF film franchise done well and correctly (which I have complete faith in JMS to do) has the extreme potential to reach beyond its fan base to a mainstream audience.

And I don't know where you get your figures from, but SF overall has been an extremely profitable genre for the film industry since the first "B" flick rolled out. Westerns have come, gone, and come and gone again, dramas have their days of being big...horror gets big then dies, then big then dies...but through it all...SF has remained fairly consistant. Granted there are peaks and lulls but every year there are at least two to three SF films that come out.

B5 has the potential to be something really big and SF on the scale of LOTR. I think WB sees that potential and has enough faith in JMS and the fans to give it the chance it deserves.

We, the fans, now have to do our part and make sure we don't disappoint JMS and WB. For if we do...then the shame is on our heads.

Think big and big things will come! Besides, he said "in spades." For all we know there is a feature film and a new series (or perhaps a revival of CRUSADE at last). New things have obviously come up that weren't on the radar when he posted back in Sept. Great Maker only knows what they are. JMS sure seems thrilled about it. Only time will reveal all.

Ok, stage two of TMoS is what he's talking about, but there are obviously other projects now developing..."in spades" he said.

The feature won't be about any monks...no. But if there is a new series, it could well be that arc. Everyone, think beyond one project! JMS told us there are more than one and that it's ok to think in multiple terms. Be happy!
