Yeah. Just like on TNG, the zip-ups from the first two seasons became enlisted personnel uniforms from the third season on and the officers began wearing the separate shirts.

Speaking of uniforms, I got a kick out a line in the excellent Star Trek novel that I'm currently reading. This married scumbag journalist is having an affair with a Starfleet officer (also married) and he muses that he should have asked her to keep the uniform (classic short skirt) on during bed time because he thought it was sexy. He then decided that asking her to leave the boots on would have been enough.

And fanboys across the world go wild.

I've said this before...but the Starfleet "jumpsuits" would have worked better as just that...utility jumpsuits. It seemed highly unprofessional to wear those while negotiating and meeting with high level officials. Ooooh, the "dress" uniform! They made it into a skirt and put some piping on it! Terrible.

The Earthforce uniforms looked so real, like something a military force should and would wear.

It should be noted that the uniforms in The Gathering differ from the ones in the series.

there is a very funny cast commentary moment when Doyle talks about how irritated a director was getting with Garibaldi putting his hands in his pockets, so the director had the pockets sewn shut! Doyle, of course, tried to put his hands in his pockets, couldn't, and refused to go on until the pockets were restored. The director gave in.

Jerry was right. "Hands in pockets" is a Garibaldi trademark.

In the actual "Great Escape" that they made the movie from, Roger Bushell (called Roger Bartlett in the film) and Bernard Scheidhauer (who becomes the Scottish "Mac") were allegedly recaptured by the Germans because Bushell put his hands in his pockets on a public street, something a German of the time would (supposedly) never do. So, unless it is a character trademark, I recommend against it.

just once i wanted to see garibaldi HAVE to empty his pockets onto someones desk, only once, could have been a classic (like when the doctor in classic tom baker episodes had to empty his pockets)

maybe i'll get my 15 or 30 seconds of joy in a future tlt

and me personally, POCKETS are a must, that NEVER made sense in startrek

I think I marginally prefer the Army of Light uniforms simply because the cut is so much better, and the EA uniforms were so often seen sagging around actors and extras they weren't tailored for.

But I think the Army of Light uniforms look at their best when combined with that waistcoat thingy that Sheridan and Ivanova occasionally wore, otherwise they're a little drab.

Black uniforms are more stylish, but having spent 26 years in the US Navy I can attest to the fact that they are a bitch to deal with in anything but the most benign environments. I never liked the leather panel on the front of the Earthforce uniform, but otherwise it seems a far more practical uniform than the black "AoL" uniform, and one I'd far rather wear (though a longer, looser tunic would be nicer on the oversized figure than that Ike jacket look, as Major Ryan discovered).

I think the Army of Light uniforms look sleeker. They're cool and unusual. The Earthforce look more like normal military uniforms though.
