  • Group Watch: The Fall Of Night

The Babylon project was our last, best hope for peace...

    ...it failed.

I feel like this episode was more of a coda to the season than a climax. The Centauri hitting the Narn homeworld was the biggest moment of the season for me. Season 1 ended with a big cliffhanger with the biggest events of the season really happening there, so a little bit of a change of pace. Still, we get to See Kosh finally, and events roll further into motion. Thinking about the times though, it's pretty crazy having those sort of effects in the sheridan falling/kosh coming out scene. Very cool with just the concept of what Kosh is and how everyone perceives him.

Honestly, this is one of the more straightforward episodes of the show. Really well done and I don't have much else to say.

Have to agree, definetely a great episode. Of course "The Long Twilight Struggle" is more of a climax to the season, but this episode gives us a gritty, dangerous, dark feeling of what is to come and functions really as a perfect conclusion to the season. The battle scenes are great as always, the final moments with Sheridan's jump out of the tube and Kosh rescuing him are just chilling, and the reactions of anyone are a classic.

You may like Keffer or not, in my opinion it's good to conclude his "Ahab"-storyline and, this way, have the Shadows also in this episode.

    And, yeah, a real cool moment: Sheridan's "I'm sorry..."-speach...!

      Definitely a highlight!

This is the episode where we really began to see what was behind Nightwatch, where I began to get that awful frustrated feeling that made the Nightwatch thread so powerful. I just wanted to punch Mr. "Peace in Our Time!"

One of my favorite moments of the episode, however, is the coda when, I think, the Drazi and another alien argue over what they saw and the Drazi finally says, "It doesn't matter. This place has been blessed." A little foreshadowing of the unity to come.

Another fine moment of the episode is when Londo is asked "....and what did *you* see, ambassador?"

        "I saw .... nothing" - with a puzzled expression

Yes, one of the finer, and sadder points of the show. JMS talks about this in the script books a couple of times.

Looks like I have to get going and *do* something about getting the script books.

Just a reminder, the next book out is #12, meaning there are only two more to follow. Last we heard, 90 days after #14 comes out they won't be available at all. Now, there still may not be any hurry, given the long gaps between some of the books. But it *could* mean that you've got about 6 months to catch up.

Back to the Londo point, I always thought it was sad to see how isolated and lonely Londo became. Even at his worst, I never stopped liking him.
