  • Babylon 5 Parody: In The Pirkining

I'm not sure if this has been discussed here or not, but I'm curious if anyone has ever seen the Star Trek/Babylon 5 parody called: Star Wrek In The Pirkinning and if so what your comments were about the film?
I originally saw it on line a couple of years ago and then just had to order the DVD. Oh and I had to also order the other Star Wrek films on one DVD as well as a In The Pirkinning T Shirt. Yeah it's stupid in alot of areas, but hey it's supposed to be and there was alot of crazy humour. The special effects were definitely pretty good quality considering it was an extremely low budget film. When I was watching the special features I was quite shocked that in many of the scenes where there were more than one actor, they were actually each filmed seperately such as on the bridge of the Kickstart. A limited number of sets were actually made.
I'm not exactly a fan of a movie with subtitles, but try watching lengthy special features with subtitles (The movie is in Finn).
I guess this shows that I'll watch nearly anything pertaining to Babylon 5.

I tried to watch this a number of years back and didn't have the patience for it or think it was that funny..maybe I'll give it another shot if you say it's worth it.

I believe there was another babylon 5 animated parody out there? I never found that one, but would love to see it.

I'm pretty sure that would be 'Babylon Park'. No idea where/how to find it, though.

That's it! It was a B5 Southpark. Anyone have it?

I google Babylon Park and came up with this website:

As I am not a fan of South Park, I didn't linger....

I looked at the trailer for Star Wreck: In the Pirkining and it looks like fun.

I have watched it, and it pretty well blew me away. At the same time I thought it was quite frightening that they'd spent six years pouring all that effort and talent into a parody (even a really good one), and I hope the people involved go on to work on some truly original projects in television and film.

The acting seemed pretty good to me (given that I don't speak Finnish). The guy who played Pirk was really funny and into the role, and as much of the humour as translated was pretty sharp and well-observed. I was amazed by the effects and virtual sets, which seemed to outclass what was normally seen in either Star Trek or B5 (and I think it's just incredible to be able to say that without a hint of exaggeration). The production values were through the roof. It really puts other fan-made films, such as 'New Voyages' in the shade.

I watched "In the Pirkenning" about a year ago and I must say I liked it, too.
The efforts those people made are really great, especially the virtual sets and the special effects are VERY cool. Well, I have to admit that the acting often seemed still a bit amateurish to me, but hey, it's a fan movie and it's a parody full of well done ideas, with some really good gags and a nice setup and story. Should be worth watching for both Star Trek and B5 fans, and it's really high above everything else fanmade I've come across till now.

                New project is Iron sky

Towards the end of World War II, in 1945, the SS officer Hans Kammler’s staff made a significant breakthrough in anti-gravity research. From a secret base built in the Antarctic, the first Nazi spaceships were launched in late ‘45, and they founded the military base Schwarze Sonne (Black Sun) on the so-called dark side of the Moon. The purpose of this base was to build a powerful invasion fleet and return to take over the Earth once the time was right.

It is the year 2018. The Nazis are about to return to an unsuspecting Earth – but the homeworld has problems of its own. Frustrated people hunger for anything inspiring, shocking, strange or surprising, like a lightning bolt out of the blue. They’re going to get it – more so than they’ve ever hoped! And they’re going to love it!

Welcome to a journey into the world of Iron Sky.

A few people referenced another Babylon 5 parody called Babylon Park which I never knew about before, thanks. To extend my appreciation I found the site that contains Babylon Park as well as Crusade Wars which is a parody of Crusade. Enjoy.

THe funny thing about "In the Pirkinning" was that originally the film had perfect B5 and Trek digital models, but I suppose in order to sell the DVD last year and avoid to serious a breach of trademarked property, they had to redo all the ships in the film make them look less like the real ones. IMHO, the Trek ships are still very close, but the B5 ships (especially the EA destroyers) got a more severe makeover.

So these guys already have a "remastered" version of their film.
