  • Some Stories About Stars I've Met

    GREETINGS ALL FROM DOWNUNDER.
    Long time visitor,1st time poster.
Just like to share a couple of tales about meeting B5 stars
(None of my friends are that interested in Sci-fi)
My wife and I went to a Con held in Sydney back in 1999 (our 1st )
    Attending were Jason Carter,Jerry Doyle,Tim Choate,Dwight Schultz.
While waiting for things to get underway I overheard Tim chatting
with another con goer about motorcycles and owning a ZX11 myself
I joined the conversation. We spoke of Tim's Bmw etc until he was paged
over the P.A to go on stage,I asked Tim if I could get a pic of him with
my wife to which he agreed happily,BUT the wife had gone to the bathroom
(and hadn't returned when the call came over the P.A.) to my delight
he waited for her to return so we could get the pic (I will always be
grateful he did this). The look on the wife's face upon returning was
priceless(her husband talking to ZATHRAS)then to have her pic taken
    with him WOW.
That photo has pride of place in my home Bar (MOLARI'S-It's you're duty
    to enjoy!).
Another funny thing was seeing Tim And his wife waiting to cross the road
while Jason Carter danced and sang in the middle of the road (the
major general song) What a character.
Just 1 more quickie, While having a smoke outside the Con, the wife decided
to go back inside,as soon as she left Jason came outside a got a smoke off
me (HOW COOL smoking with Marcus) While chatting I noticed Jerry Doyle
go past in a car (HOW COOL smoking with Marcus AND seeing Mr GARIBALDI).
Upon my return my wife extremely excited told me she'd seen Jerry
walking about to which I replied and pointed (over her shoulder) to the table
right behind her and said "You mean HIM", seated at said table was Jerry.
I'llnever forget the expession on her face when she turned around and
    said "YEAH" (PRICELESS).
Enough rambling on, needless to say all of the SCI FI/B5 stars i've met have been
GOOD people willing to go out of their way for you.
Another highlight was RYGEL-FARSCPE(Johnathan Hardy) Signing a photo (of
Rygel with a beer in his hand) "WITH BLESSING FROM RYGEL 16th of HYNERIA"
Sorry for saying so much, but I've never had the chance to tell these
tales before to people who may appreciate them.
Also thanx for the birthday wishes.

I have yet to hang out with any of the B5 crew yet...but being as your from down under...

In the mid to late 70's I partied with the aussie band 'Angel'. Drinking beer on their tour bus...and kicking their butts on Asteroids in the truckstop arcade....did I mention we were kicking their butt's playing asteroids.

Dirty rotten shame they had to tour as 'Angel City' here in the states...they totally blew away the 'Angel' band here in the states....

I haven't had the chance to go to a con yet...but I listen to Jerry D. on Dallas 820AM every weeknight starting at 10:05. They also webcast on the radio station website.
I had the dagger in my hand! And he has the indecency to start dying on his own.

Coming from a media-con-starved country, I thank you for the insight into the con-lives of the stars!

Great idea for a thread, thegavel, welcome aboard!

Probably my favorite convention tale is about Rick Biggs at a Megacon here in Orlando. On the opening Friday of the convention I'd taken several scripts for him to sign and since it was slow, we talked about my script collection and the acting classes that he did at a lot of shows with Jason Carter. He seemed really impressed that I had almost all of the scripts collected at that time.

Walter Koenig was also attending the con but wasn't there on Friday so I took some choice scripts for him to autograph on Saturday. Rick saw me and actually remembered me from the previous day and went over to Walter's table to tell him about my collection.

Just about every cast member I've met has been great. In a convention setting it's not often that you can have real conversations with them but I've definitely enjoyed meeting them.

I met Fiona Avery at Worldcon (as well as such stars as Jan M Shroeder...who coincidentally has the initials: JMS...hmm...), and almost got into trouble because I asked her if she would publish her scripts for crusade and she thought I was representing the script company of which I have no affiliation! Yike! She was nice though, and I got a picture with her...no date though. And then she had to go off and get married on me!

And yes, that entire post contained about 20 inside jokes with Jan which was of the sole purpose to make her laugh.

A pic of my home bar(Molari's)

                  Here's a shot of my home bar(Molari's).
As you'll see a lot of famous people have visited(HA HA)
All the pics are autographed(from cons we've attended)
Except Elvira's(I bought that one from HER!!)
My wife greatest catch was at a Con here in Melbourne,
It was the Technician that shut the lights off in
                  Sleeping In Light. WOW ,HIM!!!!!
I've also had Master Bratac (SG-1) nick my matches.
(I now know what powers their staff weapons!)
Yeah Cruiser The Angels Rocked,I think they're still
around in one form or another.
At the High school i attended (The year before I went there)They had a little local band called AC/DC,I think it
cost the school@$100 plus lunch!!!!!(try getting them for that NOW).
One last thing, ERIN GRAY is one fine looking lady(Met her
and GIL GERARD).Again very NICE people.
                  That 'll do for Now.
                  Cheers

                    Great pictures! Welcome aboard.

I must be one of the really lucky ones as the B5 cast have done quite a few really good conventions over here in the UK.

Jason Carter does seem to cadge cigarettes off the people around him, but he does it with such charm that you just have to forgive him. It's either that or he's making his 'roll-your-own' cigs.

Just a couple of examples of how fan orientated B5 cast members are...

I was at a convention at Shepherds Bush in London many years ago and whist the line up of guests was formidable, the organisation left alot to be desired, a VERY lot, especially the autographing set up. I'll never forget, Andreas was on the stage taking questions and one attendee asked over the PA about the lack of organisation regarding the signings. Andreas looked abit taken back - as you would expect as it was not his, nor any other guest's fault - whilst another attendee was saynig that no one blamed the guests for this lack, Claudia came over the PA to say that she and (IIRC) Rick had just started an unofficial autograph queue. It shows that they must have been aware of the 'vibes' and acted on it to help out the fans.

That was the convention where Jerry and Andrea had both eaten from a local burger place and walked away with food poisoning! Andrea missed the autograph sessions but did field questions from fans. Jerry, on the other hand, tried to soldier on. When I met him and asked how he was feeling, he described himself as feeling like a well rung-out dish cloth, very little moisture in him at all! Typically Jerry.

Great guests, but not the best organised event ever.

THANK you! I couldn't figure that one out at all. Yes, Amy ended up in the top ten in the Finesse contest but that ended on 3/31. My hair? Maybe if they have a contest for salt-more than-pepper hair...

Now, in other places I've been known as the Eep Goddess and accepted offers of virtual chocolates (dark, please) regularly. Strictly voluntary, of course. Anyway, we're not waiting for any 'Eeps' that I know of.

                        Jan
(Eep was the small signal that JMS would slip into his posts back in the days when waiting for word on renewal was an annual rite. If he got good news that still had to wait for official announcement, he'd work an 'eep' into a post to let fans know on the QT that the next season was a go. During the wait for the official announcement of the ill-fated TMoS, 'eep' morphed into shorthand for the announcement.)
