  • Unusual favourite quotes

I was wondering, do any of you have one or two favourite lines from Babylon 5 that are not on the usual favourite quotes list and still seem to stick with you for some reason?
For me, that are for instance:

    "Till you die."
"Yeah, but we are all gonna die from something." (Walkabout)

    and

"But a father should give his daughter love as well as respect. And in this I failed you." (Born to the Purple)

These lines just keep popping up in my head for no apparent reason and I've been wondering if any of you experienced that sort of thing too.

I think there's a couple of small lines that for me, hit harder and had greater impact than they did for others. Nothing long or big, none of the monologues really, just a couple small lines that for me had the impact of falling anvils ;P Mostly for the performance, but the line sticks with you. I'll give you a couple.

Probably one of my favourite quotes in the series is Sinclair's "Nothing's the same anymore", mostly for it's delivery, but since that one's actually in the Season 5 intro, it might not really be acceptable for this topic :P

I'll give another though from an episode I watched tonight: In Revelations (Season 2 ep2), I always really loved Garibaldi's line to Sheridan. 'I don't know you." Always gives me chills ;P

But, for one giving more credit to the writer than the author, I'd have to say that the one quote in the show, the one I have personally quoted more times than I cabn remember, that I don't really hear mentioned too often, is Ivanova's line to Sheridan at the end of "Points of Departure"

"There's enough guilt in the world to go around without grabbing for more."

Had a strong impact on me, that one, and it's a bit I've tried to pass down to those who've needed it.

        Lyndisty in Sic Transit Vir:

'I've always considered time to be very important! I've often thought that when we are born, we are given time in a multitude of tiny boxes so small that when we need them most, they're nowhere to be found!'

          Two Words:

From "The Geometry of Shadows", Elric the Technomage to Londo Mollari, future Emperor of the Centauri, in response to Londo's "My followers?" question...

          "YOUR VICTIMS"...

Still gives me chills. I never thought an actor could put that much emotion into two words. Mega-kudos to JMS for the scene and Michael Ansara for the perfect delivery...

Narn Opera from Parliament of Dreams

I'm thinking of thinking of calling her right
            after my afternoon nap.
I'm thinking of thinking of sending her flowers,
            right after Bonnie gets back.
So many fishies left in the sea,
so many fishies - but no-one for me...
I'm thinking of thinking of hooking a love,
            soon after supper is done.

Corwin had some of the funniest delivered lines for me...

"Its a calm peaceful enviroment, I don't think I'v ever seen anyone get upset"

"you don't get out much do you kid?" "No"
              Who are you?
              What do you want?
What is the average inflight speed of an unladened swallow?

I love anything Zathras said, but my favorite has to be:
"Cannot run out of time. There is infinite time. You are finite. Zathras is finite. Thisàis wrong tool."

I have to agree, that is one of the better quotes from Zathras.

                  I also like

"So Zathras talks to dirt. Sometimes talks to walls, or talks to ceilings. But dirt is closer. Dirt is used, through everyone walking on it. ... sometimes dirt has insects in it. And Zathras likes insects. Not so good for conversation, but much protein for diet. "

One that I've always liked but that I don't see quoted very often is at the very end of WWE Part 1 (cribbed from the Lurker's Guide):

                    "Ready?" Sinclair asks Delenn.

"Why do your people always ask if someone is ready before you're going to do something massively unwise?" she asks him.

                    Smiling, he answers her. "Tradition."
                    Jan
"As empathy spreads, civilization spreads. As empathy contracts, civilization contracts...as we're seeing now.

For me I have always been a Jeffery Sinclair fan and for all he has done in the first season to set up the show, my favorite Quote is:

"I know a lot of guys who came out of the war changed. Some came out better, some came out worse. A lot of them had this problem. The war gave them definition, direction, purpose. Without it they don't know how to fit in anymore, so they keep looking for ways to go out in a blaze of glory. Some people call that being a hero, maybe so. I don't know, I've never been one. Me, I think they're looking for something worth dying for because it's easier than finding something worth living for."
                          "Finished?"
"Yeah. I guess that covers it."
"Michael. I don't have an answer for you. And .. I think maybe I should. Thanks."
-- Garibaldi and Sinclair in Babylon 5:"Infection"
And being a Gulf War veteran, this quote from Garibaldi really got me inside, because at times I see myself being this way and this quote kind of explains it all.
"The world is a dangerous place---not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don't do anything about it" --Albert Einstein

I've always loved the line that Sinclair delivers in Babylon Squared. It's simple but he said it well.

Everything is collapsing and the beam falls on Zathras. Sincalir runs back despite the others urging him to go on. "I won't leave him!"

That part always makes me remember why I love Sinclair.
