Lets try not to over-complicate the statement to death. Yes, his answers CAN be elusive at times, however, this answer is CLEARLY not one of those times....
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Quote:
JMS: The creation of the five-year arc, and a story that has touched millions of people around the world in ways that in many cases actually changed their lives. It's a story that says the average person has power, that we CAN fight city hall and win, that one person CAN make a difference, and in a society and a culture that marginalizes and trivializes and factionalizes us, I think that's a desperately important lesson.

IGNFF: What is the future of the B5 universe?

JMS: Wait about a month and you'll find out. The clue is in the opposite of can't.
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok, there are at least two possiblities here: Is he saying the opposite is ''can'' or ''won't''. Yes, obviously he's saying ''won't''? Why? Think about it. Obviously he *wants* to continue the B5 saga, so there must be some external force making him *want* the EXACT opposite.

People, the above statement is complete horsesh$t. Take into account the ''making a difference'' speech, then use that while interpreting the opposite of cant.

Of course anything is possible. But only an idiot looks at everything crosseyed through his a$$.

Nope. You are talking the literal (and therefor the likeliest) explanation.

One that is less fun, however, for those of us how like to pretend for our own amusement that JMS always talks like a Vorlon (when he isn't talking like Zathras, of course).

    He said CAN

IGNFF: What do you think is the lasting legacy of B5?

JMS: The creation of the five-year arc, and a story that has touched millions of people around the world in ways that in many cases actually changed their lives. It's a story that says the average person has power, that we CAN fight city hall and win, that one person CAN make a difference, and in a society and a culture that marginalizes and trivializes and factionalizes us, I think that's a desperately important lesson.

Of course the opposite of can't is can. But I see it in the context of his previous answer... B5 CAN have a continuation that is succesful.
    Maybe I'm being too simple-minded?

Maybe the clue will come as part of a collector's set of Pepsi CANS which each have a different word on them that we have to put together to make a phrase . . . of course, it would take a real slimeball to try something THAT sleazy . . .

Yeah, I think the simpler explanation to all of the clues is really the best. Around May 15, WB (the studio) will make an announcement and the deal is done (read "in the can").

Recall that JMS is speaking in Vorlon here...and whenever Kosh spoke, everyone always wanted to read more into what he was saying than there was, thinking there were hidden meanings. Usually Kosh just spoke in very simple terms and phrases that sounded cryptic but usually meant exactly what he said.

Double-speak...JMS is a king at it and it really fires us up.

Like I said, once the announcement comes we'll simultaneously slap our foreheads and say, "DOH!"

And for what it's worth, I am pretty firm in my conclusion that this a feature film project of some kind. Although...I'll say I was wrong if I am

Can is the opposite of can't !

I suppose I agree that Cannes may not sound like CAN exactly - but we are not talking an exact scientific answer here - this is spoiler central and if you ask someone in the UK how to pronounce CANNES thay would say 'CAN' - as would half of the people I know who have been to the south of france.

So it is open to opinion I suppose. And we are all entitled to ours aren't we?

that said, he could mean that the deal and everything behind it is in the can.
or that the tomato soup is in the can (?)
or that the coke is in the can (??)

Something is going to be announced in the middle of may.
It is probably a feature film. ( but we can all speculate until then !)

Rejoice Fans! I am sure we will all be delighted come mid may.
( or thoroughly deflated - oh well...... )

    and remember...

    Can = Canada
NJ boy = wrong side of the river means St Lawrence.

    That's my uneducated guess.

So, I think it'll be filmed in the Great White.........unless he means that the whole thing's going in the can.

Cannes is pronounced something like "kahn." Different "a" sound completely, and not close to a homonym.

CE, we have been over this... JMS is from New Jersey - the "wrong side of the river" to a New Yorker, and a phrase the Joiseyans resent. So he wouldn't use it to describe where is is now living (L.A.) - he would use it to get back at the Yorkers.

The fact that all the networks are announcing their series plans in NYC at the very time to which he refers makes it highly likely, IMO, that the project is series-related. Since the only series "in the can" is B5 itself, I expect that the news refers to the series and/or something to be done to promote the series (like a new TV movie, used as TNT used its commissioned TV movies toi help create an audience).

That's stinging together a bunch of guesses, though. I hope you are right and I am wrong - except that I don't think you CAN be right about a New Jersey boy using a hated New York insult to describe his current home!

I do hope so - Theatrical Movie Original Script?
