NEW Babylon 5 Series in Development!

All of the discussions here and all over the 'net remind me of a similar discussion that happened here about a decade ago based on an interview JMS gave. I no longer have that interview file and the site it was on is long gone now, but I would love to hear it again in teh event anyone has a copy stashed somewhere.

Wasn't aware that Joke Story Ideas were also to be avoided, but good to know.

Don't know for sure but my feeling was that the joke suggestions got out of hand quickly with a number of people decinding that it would be fun to make a 'joke' suggestion of something they *didn't* want to see to make sure JMS would never do it.

I'll definitely feel a bit weird about a reboot, but I'm relatively optimistic. I don't think The CW is necessarily a bad choice. And I still think that The Lost Tales was fantastic, despite the extremely limited budget. As was Sense8.

I am super optimistic. I just hope JMS doesn't feel forced to try to be as innovative as he was the first time around. Just stick to a solid story of light vs dark and order versus chaos. We all know it is a big rule that he doesn't want to read story ideas, BUT don't we all agree it will help him to hear my life story? . . . . . . .

I read this article from November 26th, about the CW Babylon 5 reboot, saying the series air date could be as early as fall of 2022.

Many people point to the success of the Battlestar Galactica reboot series. I think it was the exception because they were essentially starting with a clean slate. The original series only had a small number of episodes. The reboot basically used the concepts of the limited original series to produce the reboot.


How does one reboot/rewrite a classic? How would a reboot/rewrite of classics like Gone With The Wind, The Wizard of Oz, The Lord of the Rings, etc work?


Don’t get me wrong, we’ll definitely watch the B5 reboot, as we’re pleased that JMS is involved and knowing that the series will be done right. We’re just skeptical of its success based on what I’ve outlined.

I would put the reboot of Lost in Space on Netflix in that category as well. It was well made, took the concept of the original series (a family on the way to Alpha Centauri that goes sideways) and enhances it and changes it up in unexpected ways.

That's one point I always make, too. The only one I recall (that I've seen, anyway) is the Dark Shadows '91 prime time show. And it was FAR better than the original, Even allowing for differences in budget and prime time vs soap opera.

If the Babylon 5 reboot ends up being "FAR better than the original", I'm sure all would agree that would be incredibly awesome. If that ends up becoming true, I would hope that Warner Bros. promotes the series far better than the original series.

This may be utopia thinking, but if the new series ends up being FAR better than the original, hopefully that would finally lead to a Babylon 5 Motion Picture.
