Being distracted by real life I almost missed this one, but thanks to the heads up on Facebook I managed to pitch in some support. Really looking forward to this as some of the later B5 publications have been way out of my league money-vise.

It seems like a very fun project

There are four days left to back the Babylon 5 Preservation Project. I've sent out an Anla-Shok intelligence briefings to the $60-and-above backers every Friday since the project reached its funding goal. (One of the future briefings will probably include the list of books I studied in formulating my approach to this tome; there are over 50 titles.) The book's scope has broadened--with the budget--to encompass the spinoffs and story-oriented tie-in merchandise. (I've already learned a few things about the novels and comics that I didn't already know.)

Thanks to all who've backed the project.

I planned to back this project and today I wanted to fulfill these intentions.

I wanted to pledge 50$ for a copy of the book.

Unfortunately for Germany and many other countries you have to add another 39$ (= 89$)

So I thought about pledging 100$ for two copies and check if the amount does not nearly double this time.
One cannot choose the 100$ for two books option outside the US...

I wish this project much success. I plan to inform people in the coming days that this exists. I for myself do not send money with this options (maybe a little bit, but not the 50 I planned to)

Unfortunately, a book that weighs three pounds--as is the case with a 500-page trade paperback, well-padded in a sturdy box--costs $39 to ship to Europe. That's for USPS First-Class International Package Service. If we raise the weight for two books, that shipping option is no longer available and we have to go with Priority Mail International, which is $60 to European destinations. When I was setting up the various shipping options, I thought that was too much to ask of international backers, so I opted for single-book options.

If you want me to open up a two-book option for Germany, let me know here and I'll do so for you.

In either case, thanks for spreading the word.

As the Babylon 5 Preservation Project nears the end of its funding phase--only 24 hours to go--I feel like serenading you all, much like Sheridan in this deleted scene from 509.

(It's okay. I assure you Bruce Boxleitner isn't singing in this shot. He's declaiming, definitely not singing. This is how rumors [bargains and lies] get started.)

In last night's Ranger briefing, I mentioned that an embryonic version of the book this project will yield has been on my mind since 1996. For 20 years, I kept thinking "Someone else will do it." And then I remembered going to my local bookshop week after week and asking if Harlan Ellison's ROUGH BEASTS--which had been listed as "forthcoming" since 1994--was imminent. The poor booksellers kept saying, "No, it's not in the system."

Ellison's ROUGH BEASTS finally came out in November 2012. I edited and published it with money raised from Ellison readers. So much for thinking someone else will do it. My thanks to everyone who's backed the project and to those who considered doing so and to those who asked questions along the way.

Just three hours to go for those of you still on the fence about supporting this project. Spread the word.

So is there any news of this project. As a 50$ backer I do not get any email briefings but I am still very curious

Jason sends out the newsletters every week with snippets of cool things he's found and/or items from production. I'm certain this will be a long process but when there's any news about backer premiums, I'll be sure to post (unless Jason beats me to it).

Not much to report, at present. I'm mainly assembling the bones of the book and prepping for interviews. As Jan mentioned--and thanks to Jan for drawing my attention to Satai with Punsch's question--there have been weekly snippets sent out to the folks that get the briefings.

I'll post a general update to the Kickstarter page next week, so everyone who hasn't heard from me in a while gets a sense of what's up.
