Amusing Conversation With A Friend (B5 Related)

I was talking to a friend of mine about the show earlier today, and he had quite an amusing take of B5, which I figured was something to share and laugh about a little. He's a little out there, just as a warning

We were talking about the shadows and all that, and he said "I love the shadows. Whenever I watch the show I cheer for them because it's social darwinism..which is basically my political platform put into sci-fi. The vorlons really suck, they're so touchy feely and liberal. I mean, couldn't you see Kosh 2 running on the democratic ticket?"

Just made me laugh is all. Hope it did the same for you

Funny observation... I agree, but whose side will people be on then? LOL.

Same kind of conversation with a friend regarding "Stem Cell Research" and the "Deathwalker" episode... Some people feel harvesting human eggs for stem cells research is killing pre-born humans. Others don't care either way as long as they get to live a few more years (or forever)... Kind of get you thinking if it became legal and women become harvesting cows for the rich and powerful while the poor continue to loose life because of the harvestingà What will this world be come of then? Scary thought!

As far as I remember Social Darwinism was the Basis of the Holocaust. Arguing that there is a "Master Race" and the others are to be killed to prohibit the mixing of "the Master Race" with their inferior genes.

But Social Darwinism has an inherently false presumption, in detail it uses rules of Nature to describe and formulate rules of Societies. But Societies are differnt, because they have their own rules, ensuring survival of the Society as whole. Take for example the prisoner dilemma. Often you have situations like these, and a social darwinist would say: Go for it, meaning that you should betray the other. But there is the reason why societies work besser on a bigger scope: Because you can trust your neighbor you can be more productive, because you don't need to protect yourself you can use that energy for creativity. Because everybody accepts the rules of the society (or should at least) you can feel safe and relaxed, meaning a fuller and healthier live. Societies are an evolutionary advantage.

I would find it interresting to discuss these topics, but I really begin to understand how hard it is to express yourself in a foreign tongue. Sorry for all errors in the text, I keep forgetting the rules of grammar and the like when I am thinking 8-)

Harrdy, no need for an apology. You express yourself in English better than many native speakers do - on the internet, people tend to get sloppy and forget all of their rules of spelling, grammar and usage. Alas!
