• JMS's Silence, good news or ominous?

I have 2 prevailing thoughts on why JMS has been so quiet of late, and I just want to do an informal poll, see if anyone else thinks as I do, or if conspiracy theories abound in my mind. So, here are my possible reasons for his silence.

1) The studio execs are giving JMS a harder time than he expected and as a result, he has nothing to report

2) The studio execs agreed unanimously and told him to start working on the project yesterday, and as a result he hasn't slept in 3 weeks, preparing us for a big surprise

3) He's ben kidnapped by Homeland Security and is being coerced into blaming all the world's problems, through drug therapy, on the Butterfly

4) I have *way* too much time on my hands and he's just busy.

Ok, so I have *4* possible reasons. Pick your best!

Neutral :-)

Gkar4ever supposed:
4) I have *way* too much time on my hands and he's just busy.
I'd say that's it. JMS goes quiet for various reasons but you can assume he's always busy.

IF all of the negotiations are over but the announcement simply hasn't been made, he's likely already started gathering crew together, is writing whatever revisions have been requested and agents are scurrying to parade their clients before him. Assuming that the decision's been made as to where filming will be, of course.

remembering that Jeremiah was in process for months before the official announcement...sigh.

Ill vote working. There are days when I have all the free time in the world (such as today) followed by WEEKS of non stop drok.

1) The studio execs are giving JMS a harder time than he expected and as a result, he has nothing to report
We also have to remember that JMS isn't the only one the studio is negotiating with, and the timing of the project's official announcement may be dependent on the completion of WB's negotiations with some other individual or entity. (TV network if a TV project, actor vital to the project, SFX company or companies, director if it is going to be a theatrical film.)

If he's waiting on negotiations to which he is not a party he can't say anything and has no real basis for estimating how long they're going to take. (Beyond past experience, which is where his original "end of January" and then "a couple of weeks" from the end of January guess came from.) So even if he isn't hard at work either revising the script or starting pre-production, he may not have any definite news and may also be reluctant to pop in with another "guesstimate".

This is frustrating for us, but I'd imagine it is much more frustrating for him, especially if work can't start because no final and comprehensive deal is in place.

I would vote working his ass off, whether on this project or not I can't say, but I think he's usually always doing that.

As to why he's silent, he can't speak until WB announces at this point. That's how far along this project is. It has to be "officially" announced in the trades before he can tell us anything. And we know how JMS is on waiting for announcements.

Joe is right, other negotiations have to be locked down and signatures affixed. This can take time, especially if it's an actor...sometimes they like to hold out for more do-ray-me...ya know? Remember? Not saying that's what it is...but that's one of many possibilities for delay on the announcement.

Meanwhile we go NUTS!!!

Here's the latest (as of Thursday, February 26, 2004 12:26 PM EST)

Y'know, if there's anything more annoying than having to sit on good news, I can't think of what it might be. (Well, okay, being staked to an ant hill at high noon is a pretty obvious one, but you get the idea.)

The only things I can say right now about B5:TMoS is that now that all the correct agreements have been signed, sealed and delivered, the draft has gone in, met with great enthusiasm all around, notes have been received, and the next draft is in process and has to be delievered within two weeks so that certain other steps can be set into motion.

I still can't tell you what it *is* because that has to come from the proper people through the proper channels at the proper time...but I can tell you a few cases of what it *isn't*...it isn't a novel, or a short story, a comic, an animated series, a radio drama or a stage play. Beyond that, deponent sayeth not.

For what that's worth.

Not a Stage Play??

but I can tell you a few cases of what it *isn't*...it isn't a novel, or a short story, a comic, an animated series, a radio drama or a stage play.

I'm kind of disappointed that it won't be a stage play. I was really looking forward to hearing Vir sing "I love Centauri Prime in the Spring Time"

I thought it would be more along the lines of:
"Springtime, for Londo, and Centauri,
Winter, for G'Kar, and Narn!"
I believe that when we leave a place, part of it goes with us and part of us remains. Go anywhere in the station, when it is quiet, and just listen. After a while, you will hear the echoes of all our conversations, every thought and word we've exchanged. Long after we are gone .. our voices will linger in these walls for as long as this place remains. But I will admit .. that the part of me that is going .. will very much miss the part of you that is staying.

With these mysterious, fragmented (sometimes ominous) pieces of information that only come every few weeks, I'm beginning to think that JMS has Vorlon tendencies!

Although think of Ivanova as Eliza Doolittle singing....

All I want is a husband somewhere, far away from the cold night air...Marcus may have done well but he's no longer here, oh wouldn't it be loverly! (Ha Ha Ha)

Cheers!

*Beginning*?!?!?

JMS has had Vorlon tendancies for many, many years ;P The fact that he gave us definites is actually an improvement upon things he's done in the past (although that was mostly due to story reason, and thank goodness he was as tight-lipped about it as he was many of the times)

Good man Kevin!

Perhaps JMS slinks back into his encounter suit nightly to take a few hours rest before setting out on a brand new day of manipulating obedience.

For that matter, wouldn't Babylon 5 the show just be a way to control the minds of everyone on these boards? EEEEEK!

Cheers!! hehehe...

That reminds me of that film In the Mouth of Madness for some reason O_o

Ew, that brings in a possible new title...

B5:The Mind of Straczynski

"And so it begins."
