Season 4 ... Jane's return in "Endgame" trumps every other moment in the series, for me.

You know, that reminds me: Severed Dreams is the only episode where they used a name for Maggie Egan's character, and the last time I viewed it, I found myself wondering if that wasn't an ad-lib on the part of the other anchor. I know, I know...JMS really didn't allow ad-libs, but I mean: maybe he ad-libbed it in rehearsal and asked JMS if he could keep it in, and it was allowed.

I think the only reason I noted it specially this time through is that I heard the other anchor say "Jane," and then my brain, running on ahead of itself, continued it as "...you ignorant slut." Maybe that's far too obscure a reference (and I'm showing my age!), but that seemed like _such_ a ubiquitous catchphrase in the 70s that now, the name "Jane" seems, IMHO, somewhat contrived and 'in-jokey' to use for a female news anchor. So, I wonder: was it a joke, and they just left it in? After all, they never bothered to use a name for Maggie Egan before that point.

This is a rather good question, and a hard one at the same time. I'd say my favourite moments in the series are probably in Season 4, although some of the parts that still get to me are in Season 5, mostly due to SiL. And Season 3 just blew things away and really got into the story like I couldn't believe.

And Season 2... was better then anything else I see in the Sci-Fi world, although my least favourite of the bunch.

But the one I keep coming to, the one I keep watching over and over again more then the rest and with more different episodes then the rest, is Season 1. A number of reasons for this... first being that I'm a huge Sinclair fan. Tis my favourite character. And while in Seasons 2-5 all I really wanted to see for the most part (not always) were arc episodes... wheras it was okay to have some non-arc episodes (which could be *very* good at times.) And finally, knowing everything that I do now, I'm just *amazed* every time I watch it in how well everything is set up so early on... so many things and so many hints and it just... bewilders me. Truely it's one of the maserpieces of the series, and while a year or two ago I would have definetely claimed Season 4 as my favourite, in my later years I must say that Season 1 has my vote, and most likely will continue to do so.

Looking at the script, the two anchors are billed as ISN Anchor #1 (Maggie Egan) and ISN Anchor #2 (the other guy) but the names that they use are in the script - Jane and Rick. That's on the blue revised pages, though, so perhaps it was added after the original draft was circulated.

Personally, I'd have to say that Season 5 was my favourite. I really enjoyed the huge story created within seasons 1-4, but season 5 is so much bigger. It's where the Centauri problem becomes pushed to the fore. It's where all the results of 4 years of action are shown, with Sheridan becoming President, Londo becoming Emperor, and all such plots are finally and inextricably linked. If it wasn't for Locheley (And I liked her acting, just not the character) it would trump everything ever seen before or since.

i think season 4 too - but i agree on the season 1 thing too, ive watched that series many more times t han the other and it really is unbelievable i mean truly unbeleivable how many things are set there. Like even stuff that in a normal programme would be given like 10 seconds to make and impact like a news reading on ISN, just isn't the whole earth civil war is set up from there and its just background stuff... the mind boggles!

I'm trying to write some stuff at the moment. I thoguht it would be a useful exercise for me to sit down and watch the B5 pilot breaking it down into scenes/acts and teaser information. I was blown away. It also made me instantaneously hate what i'd already written.
Its all a learning process and I'm not trying to write like Joe, but i'm a perfectionist and my aspirations are beyond me right at this minute.

                    anyways
b quickly on topic before im kicked from the library - i think the most mind blowing eps for me were the B4 eps in S1 and 3 - holy poooo pooo poooooooooooooo!!!!

Hahaha. I'll have to remember that the next time I see the ep. And no, it's not too obscure -- I'm 18, and I got the reference. I doubt it's an ad-lib, though -- possibly a joke on jms's part, but probably a coincidence.

It's like my dad always said -- it's always something.

Funny, much as I enjoyed Season 4, it always seemed anticlimactic to me after Season 3. I guess I am just a sucker for lost causes, and Season 3 is the Season of Lost Causes (or so it seemed at the time). Maybe for some it became a bit TOO much.

I can identify the exact moments when I really, really realized I didn't want this show to end. It starts with the Narn Picket's Charge and ends with the Earthforce Destroyers leaving with thir tails between their legs after Delenn challenges them. Maybe ten minutes of screen time, but what a ten minutes! The Deathride of the Chruchill, the hand-to-hand in Downbelow, the MUSIC!

Hell, I get a bit choked up just writing about it now!

Combined with all that went before and all that went after it in this season, there is a REASON why my tapes were more than worn out by the time the DVDs came out!
I believe that when we leave a place, part of it goes with us and part of us remains. Go anywhere in the station, when it is quiet, and just listen. After a while, you will hear the echoes of all our conversations, every thought and word we've exchanged. Long after we are gone .. our voices will linger in these walls for as long as this place remains. But I will admit .. that the part of me that is going .. will very much miss the part of you that is staying.

I'd always wanted to watch more B5, since 1997 or so, but the tapes just weren't good enough. I waited and waited for DVD until I gave up. Then a friend told me about The Gathering/ITB DVD and I was like "cool." Then I had to wait longer for the S1 DVD's. I'm glad I held out from buying the tapes.

Speaking of tapes, the same buddy that told me about the DVD's recorded like all of the good eps from S1-S5 and sent them on several tapes. Well, I had just bought my house and there were boxes everywhere. I never got the box. Either somebody stole it from the front steps while I was at work, or the box got tossed with all the moving boxes. Either way, it sucks and either way a thief or a bum is watching some B5 right now.
Recently, there was a reckoning. It occurred on November 4, 2014 across the United States. Voters, recognizing the failures of the current leadership and fearing their unchecked abuses of power, elected another party as the new majority. This is a first step toward preventing more damage and undoing some of the damage already done. Hopefully, this is as much as will be required.
