This maybe old news for you, but why does JMS deny permission to reprint to just SFX Magazine?

Here's a synopsis that might help.

            Phaze,

Here's a thread that helps explain. Start with the second post for SFX stuff. There may be other posts that explain more but I'm away from home at the moment. Hope this helps.

yes Jan , coming through as always. Cheers. Of course I'm only asking so I can avoid working on what I should be working on (i.e. my 'seen question' worth 1/3 of the exam I'm doing Friday afternoon).

And a little more background on the issue, based on what fans were hearing at the time.

Ironically, SFX helped contribute to a very memorable moment with JMS at their first SFX Awards, where they awarded him some honorary award, like the Hall of Fame or something like that. Understand of course, this was prior to the SFX/JMS rift. I think at some point, my wife and I had been talking to somebody involved with that convention because Sheelagh had been asked to invite Gareth Thomas from BlakeÆs 7 to present the award to Joe on stage, acknowledging JoeÆs debt to B7 in influencing B5. Anyway I think I said to Sheelagh over dinner, æWouldnÆt it be funny if Gareth came out in character as Blake in full costume and makeup?Æ forgetting of course that I should never mention these things to my wife, even in jest. The next I know, we were rummaging around at LondonÆs biggest costume hire company, trying to track down the original costume, and a few weeks later, there we were, trying to smuggle Gareth into a packed hotel and keeping him under wraps for the rest of the afternoon so that nobody knew what was happening. I can still remember watching from the sidelines when æBlakeÆ came out to present the award, to a dumbfounded JMS, probably the only time I can ever remember him being at a loss for words.

Apologies if IÆve always told this story on the site before, but it seemed somewhat appropriate in light of the current conversation.

As noted in the post I linked to, "The awards were given by the readers of SFX. Not the magazine itself." So unless the editors sunk so low as to fake the results of the vote, he probably would have won even after the rift. (The fact that the problem arose after B5 was out of production and Crusade was just shooting means the he probably wouldn't have been "in the news" enough to win an award or even be nominated later.)
