If some jerk pulls out in front of me and almost kills me, he will get the bird if he's white, black, Asian or if its a woman. I have had many many black friends over the years, growing up in an area with many blacks, and one thing that I've learned is that they hate it more when whites try to act all nice, instead of coming out saying how they really feel. They say they get a feeling like the white person is acting out of fear, not out of genuine kindness. I myself am a straightforward guy. This one guy at work now (I don't live in CA anymore) is almost twice my age and raised in the deep south. He thinks slave reparations are good. I told him I disagreed and he said it was because I am racist (I think he was half-joking). So I told him to let me tell him why I don't agree with them and then see if he still thought that. A lot of people would get that feeling that they must immediately exonerate themselves of accused racism. I mean, if someone wants to think I am racist, homophobic (that term doesn't make sense anyway) or sexist, then more power to them, because I know I am not and intelligent people willing to listen will know the truth. Most of my friends from the time I was 18-22 were black conservatives. When I'd meet black people in college, they'd be surprised that I had black friends, because I didn't seem like the typical white guy with black friends.

So, I think the main problem with race relations is stereotyping and the whole "temporary insanity" brought on when you hear someone of a different race say or do something negative against yours. You just have to learn to know he isn't speaking for the entire race like a hive mind. That's called true equal treatment.

Its good to hear your honest opnion, i will amit im a Rasict, I have been beaten up, mugged, had abuse shouted at me0 by blacks and Asains (Indian), my freinds have been stabed abd attacked and warned (in no go white area's) the area is 60% indian, and the Genreal feeling is that most Asians hate white British people, they are riots daily (even if not reported) and the attacks are getting worse.

This has cuased me to be Rasits becuase of what i have gone througth in MY OWN COUNTRY, people who go around displaying the Indian flag, go around attack me becuase im white britsh, they are allowed to get away with this in my country? they do not even what to be part of our country, this has been made very clear, but who cares about the white person? the govemenet? nop, they dont want to be seen as rasict, the police? oh no, they dont want to be seen as rasits either, the middle classes? nop they dont care. so who will stop the Indians from attacking us?

these questions with no answers is what is fueling the hate, and i will remind you that the far-right are slowly getting into power.

As a Brit', this scares me to heck! Hearing a fellow Brit' speak like this leaves me feeling extremely disappointed. I'm not sure that the infamous British press would allow race riots "on a daily basis" to go unreported, least of all go un-noticed by the political Opposition.

I'm not suggesting the previous poster is 'embellishing' the truth with inaccuracies but it doesnÆt paint a good picture of life in 21st century Britain and it certainly doesn't paint a picture I recognise.

Yes we have our problems, like everywhere else, but we talk, just like on B5. Which, as we all know, is the key to understanding.

As a fellow Briton, I am always alarmed by anyoneÆs defence of racism, as that is what has been responsible for more misery within The British Empire than anything else, even poverty.

I am sorry that you feel yourself to be a victim for the reasons you have stated, but I have never beaten, mugged, abused or shouted anything @ anyone on the basis of their skin colour, religion, nationality or anything else which you feel justifies a racist (over-)reaction.

However, I have been forced to defend myself physically on numerous occasions from self-professed "Nationalists" who claimed to be advancing the cause of ôthe Aryan Raceö.

I see no harm in ôdisplaying the Indian flagö, any more than I would see any harm in flying a Union Jack in downtown New Delhi, should I choose to live there.

If these things have happened to you, then I feel pity for the people who victimised you, as well as for yourself, since both parties feel justified in perpetuating the problem of ignorance & hatred within Our Great Nation.

The flaw in that reasoning (no pun intended) is while people like you and me see that, some others don't. It's sad but true.

And as for this outside threat thing...we are seeing it now. Terrorists, be they Hammas(sp?), Al Qaeda, PLO, whatever...they have no true national loyalty, so they can attack any of us with impunity, as evidenced in Spain. The new president(PM?) of Spain is making a vital mistake in bowing to the terrorists' wishes. Now is the time to make a unified stand against these backward thugs. Libya has given up its secrets. Pakistan is cooperating in cracking down on the remains of Al Qaeda operatives in their territory. And once Iraq shines in a decade or so as the first big democracy in the Middle East, I think it will ignite an awakening in that region, one that will lessen a lot of hate for the West.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I hadn't heard that the new PM of Spain was bowing to the terrorist's demands, but those of his own people. People that made their point very clear when the old PM was ousted. Sucks that the timing coincides with asshat terrorists who want the same thing, but ....

And don't get started on Pakistan. The govenment thinks we're swell people, sure. The crackdown is a fine thing, although with highly suspicious timing. Like Spain though, the government decisions aren't the whole picture. Their people pretty much hate our guts, and I'm not so sure our buddies there will be in power for any long period of time.

We surely do need to make a united stand. Pity is, no one seems to be able to agree which direction we should be facing.

In regards to the ''dangers'' of straying off-topic - I believe that a discussion online (like any other discussion) should be allowed to ebb and flow (like the wind or tides of an ocean), not be censored an controlled. It is only a matter of time before a new topic appears, and many people will no doubt want to express their opinions on *that* topic and on and on. If you would rather the discussion return to the original topic then I suggest you post a highly controversal opinion or ''fact'' on that topic.

Here we fall into the age old trap generalizing. How many of the american soldiers who died in Iraq so far considered themselves liberal (dont know myself)? How many of the democratic politicians ok'd Bush's plan to go to war (there was *very* little oppostion; John Kerry ok'd it himself.) Is this not getting involved? If the Liberals were as dead set against the iraqui war as you suggest it might not ever have taken place.

I myself am very liberal, and yes I was in favor of the war, because I believe that the bottom line in Iraq was the liberation of roughly 16 000 000 people from an environment of oppression and fear. Yes it comes with a terrible cost in the short term, but imagine what difference it will make in the longer term (admitidly this remains to be seen).

Should the Iraquis have emulated the Narns and resolved to strive for freedom despite the odds until they won? Which muslim authority figure would be most like G'kar? You could even go so far to as compare the Narn Homeworld and Centauri Prime with Israel and Palistine (im not going any further with that one).

And as to the Shadows - are they using Bush to promote growth and evolution through chaos and destruction? (plz dont quote me on that)
