  • B5 docking bay

Not sure if I'm in the right place to ask this but does anyone know if the cg model of B5s docking bay (the bit with the 4 doors which 'elevate' shuttles to the arrivals area) was made as part of the overall model or as a seperate virtual set. It's just that in a couple of stock shots sweeping past Babylon 5 you can just see what looks like a vast black area beyond the docking bay coridoor. I'd always hoped that they would do a single shot of a ship flying into B5, down into the bay (ie the big virtual set where Ivanova looks at Kosh's ship) and then shows passengers disembarkingthrough into the arrivals lounge. That would have been cool. Are there any sources I can get this info from?
I'd also be interested in knowing exactly what route the Starfurys take to get from the docking bay to the cobra bays and what lies past the big room behind the docking bay coridoor.
I'm not a trainspotter, I'm an amateur CGI modeller.

Im pretty sure when you just see that docking bay from a far, its just a part of the whole CG model, when it animates to simulate the elevation of shuttles, its a seperate CG.

About your other questions, i have no idea.

They're not single shots, but some of what you describe might be in Exogenesis when the shuttle docks in the beginning of the episode. Also, iirc, when Lochley arrives I think her shuttle may be followed into the bays.

No idea about the starfury route, I'm afraid. I've always wondered that a little myself.

Aren't the Cobra Bays near the front of the station? There's probably a straight drop from the main docking corridor into the Cobra Bays, similar to how other ships drop into the individual docking bays.

You're probably right, SLerman. They probably slide on in above those big observation domes which were sadly never used. I always wondered if that funny schematic you sometimes see on the C and C monitors was a map of this docking bay interior. You see it in Voice in the Wilderness 2 when the Hyperion Captain signs off after Sinclair warns him he'll fire the defence grid on him if he keeps being naughty.
