  • Question on B5 clothes ?

I was wondering recently with the extras that needed to be clothed indivually in regard to each race .Like minbari for instance what ever happened to the costumes after Babylon 5 shutdown production ?Does WB still have them in storage or were they thrown away or sold ?Since I know some people have said that WB sold some props a while back and JMS has been doing the same thing .

Patience, young padawan! Info like that isn't just freely available, likely, so people may just be looking into it. I know I would have *no* clue where to start looking for that! Although, if found, would probably buy a few pieces myself!

I have a partial answer and a partial guess.

No, the Fan Club never sold any uniforms or replicas except caps and patches as I recall-no entire uniforms. WB did sell (as I recall) one of each command staff uniform from the show. Some people have said that it's those that were turned into the 'patchworks' cards but I'm not so sure. I remember reading that some uniforms/costumes are at the Science Fiction Museum in Seattle, also. One person in the UK had a license for a while to do replicas, I think.

As for the other character uniforms and/or extras, my *guess* is that most of the identifying insignia were removed and they just ended up in a central costuming center at the studio where they'd be available to be used or adapted by other shows.

Sorry, I'm at work and couldn't answer right away...

Now that's just crappy I thought maybe after I got to actually thinking about it that would be the costumes fate.Too bad and I would tried to buy one of the minbari religious caste robes too.I really want one of those.Or better yet I can defintely dream on about Mira 's costume/dress from the first season.Out of all the dresses she wore that was my favorite.

The costumes on display at the Science Fiction Museum in Seattle are Delenn's, Londo's, and G'Kar's. I think it's the mauve/pinkish one of Delenn's, which should help more eagle-eyed viewers than myself tell you what season they were from.

As for the uniforms, I don't think that all of the three that WB sold got turned into costume cards; in at least one case, I thought an individual collector got one of them. The one item I know for certain was snipped up into shreds, horribly, was the shirt that G'Kar wears when Emperor Cartagia gives him 39 strokes of the electro-whip in season 4.

Personally, I don't understand what value a small shred of clothing on a piece of cardboard has to somebody. I wouldn't support that kind of a venture by buying anything from them. There's a piece of television history that is now irrevocably lost by such cavalier consumerism.

I agree Amy. It defeats the purpose of "exclusive collector's item issue" or having any value when it's inserted into trading card packs that anyone can get.

"oooo!!! I got a 1 inch square of Cap'n Sheridan's uniform and a 1 inch piece of scrap metal that was part of a PPG. Eventually my Babylon 5 mosaic will be complete!!!"

Having a small piece of clothing from the set of Babylon 5 gives the poorer of us a chance to actually own a piece of b5 "history".Since my pocket book will never be in league with the price tag that some of the stuff JMS recently sold can't give and opinion on the WB auction cause I didn't watch them but I did watch most of JMS's. But that's just my opinion.

If I had a chance to own a piece of B5 history, such as...the robe of the Entil'Zha but it as only a 1 inch square, I'd pass on it. At least in my view, the value isn't on the 1 inch square. It's the actual item itself.

I'd love to have that robe or even a Ranger's uniform. As a loyal fan of the Cubs and Bears, I'd love to have an actual game-worn jersey of Ryne Sandberg, Ron Santo, Gale Sayers, Dick Butkus, Walter Payton, or Brian Urlacher. A 1-inch piece of those jerseys just doesn't convey the same meaning or special value that the actual jersey does.

jms himself has auctioned some uniforms off on ebay. Not many though. There used to be a link right on the first page of The Lurker's Guide to Babylon 5 to those auctions (and I bet they have been discussed here .. I'm a newbie and haven't read all the pages). It's not still on the main page, but is on the "What's New" link, but the link doesn't work on ebay anymore.

I remember my mouth watering when I saw the auction, but I was able to retain control of my pocketbook on it.

Ebay only keeps listings available for 90 days at the outside and those auctions were back in April/May as I recall.

JMS auctioned off one uniform. It was one he had had custom made for himself when the pilot was filmed and updated when the show was made. The other clothing item I recall was a satin jacket which was a sample as a possible cast/crew gift.

On the topic of Seattle Science Fiction Museum B5 costumes, here are some pictures of the display. I apologize for the quality, they were taken with a cameraphone.

Maybe we should start doing it with stuff in the Smithsonian...
Recently, there was a reckoning. It occurred on November 4, 2014 across the United States. Voters, recognizing the failures of the current leadership and fearing their unchecked abuses of power, elected another party as the new majority. This is a first step toward preventing more damage and undoing some of the damage already done. Hopefully, this is as much as will be required.
