  • Oh Father, I have sinned

Well, here's me again and I have a short story. Next year I'm going to move to the UK (if I'll get visa successfully) and started saving money for that. I sold a lot of stuff on eBay, including some furniture and all of my DVDs. Yeah, including B5. Argh... and that was a HUGE mistake. It's my 3rd week without B5 and I already have withdrawal symptoms... I started rereading Lurker's guide, but it made it even worse...

Long story short - I will get my UK "Babylon 5: The Complete Universe" in 2-3 days. I'll better sell my PC instead of B5. No, wait, I cannot - I need something to watch DVDs on

P.S. The package of "Universe" looks like a coffin
P.P.S. Of course I did not sell my original edition of "The Gathering" (the 1993 version that was put into 1998 boxes by mistake). It will be a rarity soon!

    Well, I feel better now

My son, I think you've already been punished for your sin enough. I hope you've learned a valuable lesson here that you can do without many things in life. Eating is really overrated, for example. Babylon 5 is a necessity, though.

For penance you must participate in at least two threads in the next week. Go thou forth and sin no more.

Oh yeah! I definitely need to eat less...

Anyway, until Friday (or Saturday) I will live with "The Gathering" and two DVDs (the ones that were replaced by Warner Home Video UK - in season 1 and season 5 - I kept the erroneous originals - and this means that I have 7,83 episodes for the next 2-3 days).

And of course I will probably get the first scripts volume in 2-3 weeks. Though I did not get any confirmation yet

Maybe this is a silly question, but couldn't you just have saved your favorite DVDs and just bought a multi-standard player when you settled in? It probably would have saved you a lot of money in the end, plus multi-standard players are much more readily available there than here, maybe 50 pounds or so if you keep your eyes open. Maybe weight is a problem, but I always carry a couple of dozen CDs and DVDs when I go back and forth to the UK; I just keep them in unbreakable CD holders so they don't weigh all that much. But I'm sure there's a bit more to your story than that.

I did not moved yet - I'm only going to. I was selling my DVDs to raise some money for future relocation - obviously since both Germany and UK are region 2 I'd have no problems with DVD compatibility (not to mention that my DVDs were UK already). I thought that selling B5 DVDs in Germany, waiting for a year, and then buying them again in the UK would give me some money temporarily

In fact I'm selling almost everything: furniture, electronics, 2 computers, my 150+ DVDs, music CDs, etc. I hope that this move to the UK will be a defining moment in my life and career, and I'm waiting for this 3 yaers already, so I just cannot screw it up!

You know,I thought this was a joke....You did WHAT!!??? EEEESCH! I have my set and they take pride of place amongst my large (and now thanks to LotR being available, my complete B5) DVD collection. I think it may actually have been on you recommendation but it too purchased the original 'GATHERING' DVD from www.amazon.com/de and I am very happy with it. I am also guilty of having all 5 seasons, and CRUSADE and the movies all on VHS too! I HAVE NO ROOM FOR ANYTHING!!! I have no room for a decently sized bed.

I could buy a smaller bed but then I would face another problem. There would be room the bed, or me, but not me AND the bed!

            Sleep?

            Who needs sleep?

When you move to the UK, perhaps I could borrow the 'B5 Universe Box' lid, that looks like a coffin, and sleep in that.....

And you know what, Johnny Sekka and Tamlyn Tomita did not fit into their characters. Laurel is lifeless and frozen. And Kyle is just badly acted. Mr. Sekka is bad actor - did you remember the horror of "Is there any way to intencify contact" or "would someone tell me, what the hell is going on around here" ? It's terrible! And completely unbelievable!

Did you know that there are actually two versions of Tamlyn's dialogue, alex_t? JMS posted that the powers that be didn't like her original, more forceful delivery and asked for her to redo her dialogue via ADR to make it softer. When JMS did the re-edit for TNT, he threw out that version and restored the original.

Yep, but frankly I don't see much difference. But I will rewatch it soon (I hope!) - just to be sure.

Well, that makes two of us.
If things go well (read:I get the job I applied for) I'll leave this governmentless country too and move to Ireland.
Tho I'll probably leave the more heavy equipment here too, I'd never sell my DVDs or CDs and definitely not my TV set and stereo.
Computer wouldn't be much of a loss though, old as it is.
                      What's up Drakh?

Well, when I sold some DVD's for spare money, B5 did NOT go. Neither did Battlestar Galactica or Firefly.

CSI went by-bye. Not much viewing pleasure past the first time there. And Carnivale, since it won't even be finished. It wasn't that great. But Deadwood. It's still on my shelf too.

I've just finished watching "The Gathering: Special Edition" and you know what, you are right - I don't know why I did not noticed that before, but Laurel is so much better in this edition! Cool!

P.S. Even Dr. Kyle is not that bad as before...
