  • what episode got you hooked ?

I asked this same question a while back and got some interesting responses from people so I thought why not ask it again . Who or What made you tune into Babylon 5 to start out with ? And what episode got you hooked ?
For myself I was watching some reruns of Scarecrow and Mrs King and I just got a computer at the time so I was curious to see what else Bruce Boxleitner had done after the show went off the air .So I looked on IMBD listing and scanned through the list and Babylon 5 for some odd reason stood out among all the rest ,found out what time, day and channel it was on and tuned in.The first ep I saw was the long twillght struggle then I saw Comes the Inquistor which blew my socks the acting in this was excellant the pain was real to me which well done Mira Furlan and Sabastian just gave me the creeps .He still does especially at the end when he says and I am paraphasing from memory "Not as hero or as a philosopher but as Jack "Chilly Any takers ?

Well, I must say, "The Gathering" did not really hook me. I took a bit of a break from B5 for a while....and picked it up again early in the 3rd season. I wondered why the Captain looked different, and didn't really find out until reruns when B5 came on TNT.

Which one "hooked" me? I would have to say "Severed Dreams".

I have to say I was recently hooked during the first minute of "The Gathering"
when I randomly decided to buy the DVD. Peter Jurasik's opening was an immediate attention getter.

For me, it would be "Signs and Portents." Up to that point I had been enjoying the series, and I was beginning to see little things that intrigued me, but SaP really started opening up the story and had me coming back for more.

Ditto that. The appearance of Mr. Morden, Kosh and Delenn's reactions to him... those were good enough hooks, but then the Shadow ship materializing and destroying the Raider ship... well, much like G'kar later on, I found myself saying "There's someone else out there..." and I wanted to find out who.

I was hooked after seeing one particular shot, and it wasn't even a very exciting one.

I watched Sheridan go down into the pit in Z'ha'Dum but since I had only seen a few episodes of B5 here and there, it didn't really have the same impact - it was just another cool episode. But, when I saw Sheridan's dusty gold pin in the dirt, I suddenly HAD to find out what happened to the guy. It was just one of those seemingly insignificant things that kick you in the butt and get you started down a path.

Though I did enjoy all of the first season, I think that even with its more 'episodic' format, by the time "SIGNS.." and "VOICE...." 1 & 2 came along (true, strong arc episodes) I had already began to realise that I had found something VERY special indeed. It occured to me that, with "SIGNGS...", this show was going to open out into something HUGE, and was further confirmed when "VOICE..." 1 and 2 were broadcast. Whilst the first season was not my favourite back then, recent re-viewings of all 5 years means that I place it at equal first place with the the other 4 years worth. Yes, they are all my favourites!

I got hooked from watching "The Gathering." Due to the time that my local stations broadcast Babylon 5 back then when it was in syndication, I didn't get to see too many of the early episodes, but that didn't keep me from wanting to see it. And my wanting was born from watching "The Gathering" when it was broadcast one weekend. I had particularly found myself impressed with the visual effects, especially the Vorlon ships.

I really liked "Mind War" and "A Sky Full of Stars" - But, I guess "Signs and Portents", too. Season one has lots of great highlights... Reminds me, I need to rewatch it! Not watched S1 properly for about a year.

Wrote it off for years, mostly because syndication was scheduling hell in my area unless your name was Hercules or Xena. I tried to get into B5 when it moved to TNT, but nothing really clicked. I think it wasn't until SciFi reruns that , on a lark, I caught Sinclair's little speech on "And The Sky Full Of Stars". That was the hook, I think, although by the time I caught another ep it'd rotated into S2 and out of my understanding. It took another couple rotations before I managed to see, let alone understand the whole thing.

Watched the debut of The Gathering. Heard about it in the sci-fi special of TV Guide, featuring DS9, B5, Space Rangers, and more. I was only half paying attention. It wasn't until years later on TNT that I caught some key season 4 eps such as TIOT that I had to see the show. Unfortunately, it was tough to catch the show in order, so I figured I'd buy the show on VHS. Too erratic in regards to releases and availability. I figured I'd wait until the DVD's came out. I had to wait a few years, but it was worth it. Watching a show from the start -- especially a show like B5 -- is wonderful.
Recently, there was a reckoning. It occurred on November 4, 2014 across the United States. Voters, recognizing the failures of the current leadership and fearing their unchecked abuses of power, elected another party as the new majority. This is a first step toward preventing more damage and undoing some of the damage already done. Hopefully, this is as much as will be required.

Believers, even though some place it under the label "Bad B5 episodes". When I first saw this episode back in my college days, I was more into Star Trek even though I felt it was becoming formulaic and dull. It was the first time I said, "If they did this episode on Star Trek the parents would have come around, accepted what the Doc did, would have left as a happy family, and the Doc would stay the same".

                            From the start

Last august, a friend loaned me the box of the first season to see while I do my kilometres on the treadmill (I have to, I am diabetic and it lowers my bloodsugar). The first evening I watched the first five episodes... The second day I stopped by the videoshop and ordered the whole series before going home.
I'm still awed... never seen anything that good before.

For me, it wasn't a particular episode, more a series of moments, until eventually I realised I was hooked in with no escape.

                              Infection
With hindsight among the weakest B5 eps, but in first run, as only the 4th episode, it intrigued me. The moment that grabbed me though was the mention of Earthforce Bio-Weapons Division right at the end. The first of many feelings that there was stuff bubbling away in the background.

Again perhaps a weaker episode (but one I still enjoy) and again the moment came at the end where, with Franklin having saved the life of the child, his parents sacrifice him as demanded by their beliefs. That was a real jolt, as I was expecting the old Star Trek-style ... everyone lives happily ever after because the humans have shown the aliens the error of their ways.

                              Signs & Portents
The first sight of the shadow ships. Need I say more?

                              Babylon Squared
By the time this one came around I was already hooked, but this ep (rather than any particular moment) convinced me that I was in it for the duration ... and left me praying that there would be a second season.
