  • Question about jump points

Hi all!! Ive been watching the seasons over again and had a question that should have been obvios a while ago. Why are the jump point colors blue and orange when hyperspace is actually a reddish color? Ive tried searching the forums but theres a lot of stuff to sift through.

Also i have been wondering if the shadows are as old as delenns stories say they are. These stories came from the vorlons and could have been a lie to bring the minbari onboard or something along those lines. I just never understood that if the shadows were that old why werent they at the top of the jungle gym..?(Giants in the playground... haha?) Thanks!!!!

Hi, closetnerd, welcome. I found this post from JMS that refers to the colors. Maybe that'll give you an idea? Or maybe somebody who groks physics can help.

Well, I think that it probably has something to do with the 'rules of engagement' that both the Shadows and the Vorlons had agreed to abide by. Remember that, until Sheridan fell at Z'ha'dum, both of them had stayed pretty much behind the scenes, manipulating but never acting directly. After Sheridan attacked the Shadow's planet, the Vorlons 'came out' and started attacking worlds that the Shadows had influenced. Neither of them confronted the other, though, possibly because if they'd done so, the result would have been devestation for themselves and everybody else.

As it is, we know that both the Shadows and the Vorlons had organic technology and we know that the Vorlons had influenced the other races to see them as beings of light. We also know that the Shadows had some kind of phasing capability so they could go into and out of hyperspace without gates and also stay hidden while accompanying Morden. Sounds like both really were on top of the 'food chain' to me.

Yes i understand that, what i meant was if the shadows were supposedly so much older than many of the first ones, how come they were so quick to listen to and respect the younger first ones, if you get that... Unless the shadows had been around but took a long time actually figuring out space travel and meeting the other races.

I think that over millions of years the scales evened out among the First Ones. Lorien & the Triad are the oldest and initially nurtured or influenced the other First Ones, like the Shadows, Walkers, and Vorlons. Of course they squabbled & fought wars, but never to extinction. Over time they all reached staggering levels of knowledge such that they eventually grew bored and either withdrew or just moved on to new territory (i.e. beyond the rim, Third Space,...).

In short? So they know whether someone is coming or going
"It is said that the future is always born in pain. The history of war is the history of pain. If we are wise, what is born of that pain matures into the promise of a better world, because we learn that we can no longer afford the mistakes of the past." -- G'Kar in Babylon 5:"In the Beginning"
